“The reduction is the outcome of CEC’s three-phase strategic plan to improve system efficiency and upgrade lines and equipment,” said Mike Bailey, CEC board president.

The co-op initiated the plan in 2007. Over the past five years, CEC has improved right of way, and installed digital meters that allow for remote disconnects and reconnects and improved monitoring. “System mapping is now electronically recorded by GPS, and we have upgraded equipment, replaced bad poles and ameriductor wire, and re-sized line and transformers. This increased reliability and decreased line loss,” Matlock said. “Our goal was to improve service and increase reliability, while lowering cost on our side of the coin.

The co-op also initiated a plan for paying capital credits that has returned some $4.5 million to members over the past eight years, Matlock added.

The meeting on September 28 drew a large crowd with some 1,200 members registered, plus hundreds of other family and friends in attendance.

The annual meeting was held in the Hugo Rodeo Arena, and enjoyed record- breaking participation by vendors. Jia Johnson, coordinator of vendor displays, said 70 vendors set up booths at the meeting, showing off arts and crafts, clothing, candles and more. “We offer this space for free, so we always get a huge response,” Johnson said. “This year, we actually had to turn away vendors because we ran out of space.”

CEC thanks members for their support and participation in the meeting. Please make plans to join the fun next year!
