OEC Foundation Awards $95,400 from Operation Round Up® Donations

Operation Round Up® collects pennies,

nickels, and dimes from co-op members to create positive

and lasting change in our communities.

Ten nonprofit agencies and 21 individuals or families are sharing

$95,400 worth of grants the OEC Foundation board awarded in October from Operation Round Up donations. “More than a dozen grants—nearly half of the funding—are going to families affected by the May tornadoes,” said Vivian Gibson, president of the board. “While many in the area are well on their way to rebuilding their lives, some still are struggling to recover.” According to Gibson, most of the tornado relief aid will be used to purchase building materials. Of the money granted, $29,850 will provide food, clothing, and eye and dental care to some of the most vulnerable members of our community.

“Aging Services will purchase shelf-stable food and prepare multi-meal packs to deliver to the elderly in rural Cleveland County; Assistance League will provide winter coats, apparel, and shoes to area schoolchildren; and Prevent Blindness Oklahoma will conduct vision screenings on students across the co-op’s service area,” Gibson said. “Tat’s not all, but it's an idea of how the funds, which are donated by co-op members, are improving our communities.” OEC members who ‘round-up” their monthly electric bills donate an average of $6 per year. Collectively, however, more than $210,000 is contributed. Since the program’s beginning in January 1993, more than $3.8 million has been awarded—all of it in the co-op’s seven-county service area. Te Foundation board will meet on Nov. 14 to consider funding requests.

Application forms, available at http://bit.ly/oec-oru, must be filled out in their entirety and returned by Nov. 11 to be considered at the November meeting. If you have questions about the program or application process, please call Patti Rogers, Operation Round Up coordinator, at 405-217-6710.

OEC members have donated more than $3.8 million since 1993 to help those living in OEC's seven-county service area.
