HOLIDAY CLOSINGS
Tri-County Electric Cooperative will be closed on Thursday, Nov. 28, and Friday, Nov. 29, for Thanksgiving and the Day after Thanksgiving company holidays. For Christmas and New Year’s, the office will be closed on Dec. 24, Dec. 25 and Jan. 1.
Several members have contacted Tri- County Electric in recent months reporting suspicious phone calls. Often, the caller poses as an electric cooperative employee and threatens disconnection of service. Sometimes the caller is seeking bank account information and or a prepaid credit card.
As always, the cooperative’s after-hours service will be available to assist members with payments and outage reporting. Tri-County Electric’s employees will also be on call in the event of an outage.

“Tri-County Electric does not call members seeking payment,” Chris Purdy, Tri-County Electric vice president of Member Solutions said. “Anyone receiving a suspicious call should hang up immediately and report the call to us.”
Purdy said members with past due bills usually receive an automated courtesy call. Typically, cooperative representatives do not call members.
Anytime a member is not comfortable giving information over the phone, he or she should hang up and call the cooperative at 580-652-2418. A member service representative will verify whether the call is authentic.
Some tips from the Better Business Bureau to avoid scams:
• Beware of giving personal information over the phone. Never provide your social security number, credit card number or banking information to anyone requesting it over the phone or at your home.
• Do your research. If you receive a call claiming to be your utility company and feel pressured for immediate payment or personal information, hang up the phone and call the utility.
• Beware of the door-to-door sales approach. Never allow anyone into your home to check electrical wiring, natural gas pipes or appliances unless you have scheduled an appointment or have reported a utility problem. Always ask for identification.
