design
departments are integrated yet still able to maintain their own special identity within the school. Anchorsholme actively promotes
personal and social development, and whilst the school does not have a specialism, headteacher and amateur dramatist Graeme Dow was keen to
a unique identity for each cohort of pupils
encourage learning and development in this area. Everyone is encouraged to join in a wide variety of experiences in addition to those associated with the classroom.
Stage productions To align itself with this vision, the new hall now features retractable theatre style seating, providing better facilities for stage productions without compromising the free space currently used for other purposes. It is also hoped that new lighting rigs will be fitted to further develop the hall’s capability for the teaching of theatre and performance art. Graeme Dow commented: “By
effectively using the floor plan better, we have delivered improvement in a very ingenious way. For the first time we now have a hall in which all 620 pupils can sit together at the same time, and there is also a new library in a vibrant open space which means it can be used in many more ways than just sourcing books.”
