Staunton, IL — Fume extraction has taken a large step forward with the in- troduction of the iQ intelligent operat- ing system, a software package that’s loaded with new features that look set to change the way that fume extrac- tion is viewed in the future. Released by UK-based fume-extraction manu- facturer BOFA International Limited, the new software is particularly aimed at industrial process facilities where downtime is the dreaded enemy. The iQ operating system incor-

porates a method for monitoring the status of both the pre-filter and com- bined (main) filter. Pre-blockage warnings provide operators with ample time to prepare for a change and when a filter change is needed the system is able to indicate exactly which filter requires replacement, thus significantly reducing the un- certainty and time taken to under- take a filter replacement. Where process or breakdown

evaluation is required, the iQ pro- vides the facility to download opera- tion data which can either be locally or remotely evaluated. In many cases the number of costly and time-con- suming service calls may be reduced or even eliminated altogether. The question of filter life and

cost of ownership has always been a topic of debate. Experts will give their opinion, but until now little or no fact based data has been readily available to support such views. The download feature of the iQ enables users and sellers to record and evalu- ate timed and dated event logs which

can be used to establish true filter performance profiles and support predictive filter life.

Fume extraction systems like this will get an operating boost from new software.

iQ fume extraction units can also

be supplied with the very latest Smart Filter options. Once again BOFA has uniquely applied an innovative ap- proach to filter management and by applying proven RFID technology can now give users added assurances that the correct specification and type of fil- ter is being fitted and that the expect- ed filter performance and working life

will be achieved. Contact: BOFA Americas, Inc.,
