Abellio, the joint venture behind the UK’s biggest train operator, Northern Rail, has appointment Hynes as managing director. He joins the company this month from the Go- Ahead Group. Hynes succeeds Ian Bevan, who stepped down in March and Alan Chaplin, interim MD.


Peter Wilkinson


Peter Wilkinson to carry on as Franchising director The Department for Transport has extended Wilkinson’s contract as interim Franchising director to January 2015 to ensure the ‘continued successful roll-out of the government’s rail franchising programme’. Wilkinson, who has been with the DfT since January, was key in launching its new franchising schedule in March. Over a long career, he was involved in the privatisation of British Rail’s train operating units, leading franchise procurements for the Strategic Rail Authority, and franchise and concession bidding both in the UK and abroad. In addition, he was the principal advisor to Network Rail on rail alliancing and most recently was the commercial advisor to Richard Brown’s independent review of rail franchising.


Jason Butterworth


Mace announce two new appointments in infrastructure Mace has appointed Jason Butterworth as director of Design & Transportation and Adam McAllister as head of Rail for Construction.


Butterworth previously worked for WSP, McNicholas, NG Bailey and Carillion and ‘played a pivotal role’ in the growth of WSP's rail business. McAllister will take the construction lead role for the rail business working closely with Nigel Cole. He joins Mace from Kier.

Fred Maroudas joins Eversholt Rail Previously finance director for Heathrow Airport, Maroudas is the new chief financial officer and succeeds Simon Purves. He will be responsible for finance, risk and information technology. Mary Kenny, CEO of Eversholt Rail, said: 'We are looking forward to working with Fred and our recently appointed COO, Andy Course, on the strategy to take the business forward.'
