Business profile EKE TRAINNET® - A SINGLE SYSTEM TO MANAGE YOUR TRAIN

Integrate all onboard systems EKE-Trainnet® allows easy and cost-efficient system integration. Train systems can be connected to each other via a single network. Versatile and high performance technologies allow for virtually any system to be integrated, providing great flexibility.

Automate train operations and diagnostics EKE-Trainnet® provides the tool to control and monitor train systems connected to the network. Software can be developed to automate train operations and diagnostics, enabling better performance, service and response time. Common control and monitoring include speed, acceleration, temperature (e.g. bearings), energy consumption, doors, air conditioning, ventilation, lights and wet cell.

Communicate with passengers and staff EKE-Trainnet® is able to collect, analyse and share relevant information with passengers and staff in a timely manner. The information can be provided via conventional screens or audio announcements but also wirelessly to depot or mobile devices when wireless capabilities are added.

Record data for safety applications Video surveillance and data recorder systems are part of the EKE-Trainnet® offering and can be used to collect and store critical information, thus contributing to enhance train safety. Data can be retrieved at any time to study system performance, for instance after an incident.

he added. According to EKE, Ethernet Train

Network is a necessary technical evolution to overcome those challenges. Its large bandwidth - typically 100 Mbit/s, with possibilities to have 1 Gbit/s - is in most cases sufficient to be used as a single train- wide network for all onboard systems, including data intensive CCTV systems. The company believes it can simplify the setup, management and maintenance of the train network and therefore reduce the cost. Eldh said: ‘Ethernet protocols are standardised and a range of Ethernet compatible devices, such as switches, cables, connectors, are widely available, lowering costs further. ‘Ethernet Train Networks also support essential features

such as automatic train inauguration and the implementation of redundancy. Finally, features like Power over Ethernet (powering a device via the Ethernet cable) offers additional advantages, making Ethernet Train Network a superior and safe long-term solution for modern trains,’ he added.

Pushing the boundaries of TMS EKE Electronics is convinced that building a single train communication network such as an Ethernet Train Network paves the way for the use of a single, fully integrated TMS. The TCMS (train control and

monitoring system), event recording systems, passenger information systems, public announcement systems, video

surveillance and other important systems can all use the same platform. ‘Significant synergies can be found

when using such an integrated system as interoperability, functionalities and design are optimised for superior performance, reliability and cost-effectiveness,’ said Eldh.

Smarter trains mean lower costs It’s easy to see how using an integrated TMS could reduce costs and provide a common platform and logic for simpler implementation of automation — and automation is necessary to achieve efficient train management. Automation helps in the prioritisation of relevant information and is a set-up that allows for auto- communication to the right people at the right time. It can be used to monitor and record

information on all train functions, from tilt and doors to air conditioning, lighting and bearing temperature. It can also be used to share information with passengers via screens or audio announcements. Indicating the train’s location and route or making security announcements can be managed via automation. Train management automation

enables accurate and timely exchange of information. When alarms – following a blown light bulb or an unusual temperature variation – are automatically issued in real- time, diagnosis and maintenance is sped up and the service improved. The message from EKE Electronics

is: ‘Automation helps maintain trains, improves the fleet usage and, most importantly, passenger comfort. ‘EKE Electronics developed

EKE-Trainnet® to be a versatile and comprehensive answer to all of these challenges. We have worked closely with operators, manufacturers and maintenance companies all around the globe to realise

these matters,’ concluded Eldh. • Visit www.eke.com Tel +358 9 6130 3308
