Tell us a bit about BBB’s manufacturing – how has it become capable of producing such a large catalogue? The BBB product range has over 1,500 products in over 40 product groups. But with our product development team of seven people, interns from the TuDelft and a few external partners we are able to create our great products. Our team is on a continuous search for better designs, materials to use, or anything that can make a cyclists ride more comfortable. Over 60 award-winning products in different product groups is a conformation we are doing a good job.
BBB has been with Windwave for a while now –do dealer like the goods? BBB already had a great customer base when we took on distribution; however our task was to grow both the brand and the dealer network. In the two and a half years since taking on BBB we have managed to more than double our dealer footprint with most actively asking to increase their in store offering. Our independent dealers report that the sales units work so well that one in three people who browse them will buy.
The brand has some strong POS – what can dealers get their hands on? BBB has a proven sales concept; simply put, to enable our dealers to effectively sell products they need to be displayed on branded POS units. All of BBB’s products have an associated POS option, these range from the popular wall systems, to free-standing towers and counter top displays. We have built the buy-in commitment to be very manageable for the dealer. Often the requirement is to just purchase the stock to fill the unit, plus a few extra pieces for refills. Our sales
team can offer help when it comes to ranges and stocking orders. We will then arrange a follow-up with the stock and POS units and will build, merchandise and label it all for you.
Is there anything BBB currently don’t do that we’ll see in future? For 2014, we will already have the disc brake pads compatible with Sram Red road hydraulic disc brakes, so why not the rotors too. It is, however, more difficult when introducing a complete new product group. The development of helmets took us over two years before we were satisfied enough to introduce them. Introducing a new group that won’t meet the expectations can harm the complete brand, so we will always be critical. For 2014, we will introduce two new
product groups; phone mounts and bottom brackets. Phone mounts because it’s a new upcoming product group. And we know we can do better than what’s currently available. Bottom brackets are a part prone to wear. All wear parts, chain, rings, cassettes, derailleur pulleys and bottom brackets, can now be supplied by BBB.
It seems product customisation has been key to product launches in the last few years – is this now a focus? It’s not only a focus of the design team, it a trend in cycling. A cyclist’s helmet must fit their glasses, their clothing and their bike. A colour change of your temple tips can be enough. For this we even introduced an app for iPhone and Android recently. With the BBB Selector you can design your own Select or Impact sport glasses and use the wish list at your local BBB dealer to purchase your desired glasses.
