NEWS ISPO Bike hails refocus a triumph Munich show to stick with having urban and lifestyle cycling at the fore  Dates set for 2014 ISPO Bike By Jonathon Harker

LAST WEEK’S ISPO Bike may have been on a smaller scale than previous years, but the change in direction has been positively backed by visitors and organisers alike. Thirty-six per cent of attendees branded the event ‘excellent’, while 40 per cent labelled it ‘good’. The show organisers told BikeBiz that

ISPO Bike’s focus is now not to clash with Eurobike but to focus on urban lifestyle cycling, making the show virtually unique on the world stage in drawing on the ‘culture of the bicycle’.

Speaking to BikeBiz during the show,

ISPO Bike exhibition director David Badalec said: “I’m happy with how it’s gone so far. “Our goal is to produce a quality show

with good market products, good market information and where people can do business. We will stick with the focus we now have and carry that into 2014. There’s still more we can do, but we’ve got a good foundation to build on.”

“We aim to produce a show where people can do business...”

David Badalec, ISPO Director

Badalec expanded on why e-bikes are one of the key components of the show: “Electric bikes are exciting because of their potential, including touring e- mountain bikes. They have opened up that market to families rather than just a hardcore. E-MTB touring could be the skiing of the summer. There are just so many opportunities.” Cargo bikes and urban fashion were

also key components of ISPO Bike, which saw 5,500 trade visitors from 40 countries attend. Consumer figures topped 4,000

‘World changing’ tyre product revealed

By Jonathon Harker

SOLID TYRE brand Tannus believes it has cracked the air-less tyre product. Showcasing its range at ISPO Bike in

Munich last week, Tannus said its ‘world changing product’ is for daily use rather than performance cycling, but is highly convenient, making use of a lightweight, highly durable and temperature resistant material.

In development since 2003, Tannus tyres

are assembled using a clincher type rim with a ‘Locking Pin System’. The tyres come in a wealth of colours, from black and white to lemon, pink and aqua marine. So far the brand is only selling in Korea

and Japan, selling in the region of 8,500 per year in the latter. A German distributor is testing the

product at present – as is folding bike brand Brompton in the UK. Tannus has recently switched to a new

factory with capabilities of producing three million of the tyres per year. www.tannus.com
