CHECKING OUT WHERE TO... STAY:
BY ALAN ORBELL THE BACKGROUND: First opened in 1993, Millbrook is a multi-award- winning (including Best Golf Resort in Australasia) luxury golf and lifestyle resort near Queenstown. Once a wheat farm, it’s now a 175-room boutique hotel with a 27-hole golf course across 500 acres of rolling hills and gentle streams with, in the right season, a snow-covered mountain backdrop. THE LOCATION: A short taxi ride from both Queenstown Airport and city centre. Free mini-bus shuttles are also available between the city centre and the resort. The pretty old gold-mining town of Arrowtown is nearby. THE ROOM: A short electric cart ride away from the main reception, the spacious 50 sqm one-bedroom Village Inn room had French doors opening out to the golf course and the mountain views beyond. The room, with a homely feel, featured a 'California'-king sized bed, lounge area, fl at-screen TV, stereo system and outside patio.

ST JAMES’S CLUB MORGAN BAY – SAINT LUCIA
BY MARTIN STEADY THE BACKGROUND: St James’s Club is on one of Saint Lucia’s many irresistible bays, and is a holiday location where you can truly unwind or get stuck in with seemingly endless activity options – whether fun, adventurous, healthy or with a 'lifestyle' bent. With memorably friendly staff throughout the entire property, the feeling of being wel- come and excellently looked after is unforgettable. A favourite for couples,
families, weddings and honeymoons THE LOCATION: Located in Morgan Bay on the Caribbean north-west side of Saint Lucia in a romantic waterfront setting, just minutes from Rodney Bay Marina (with its fantastic restaurants!), Cap Estate golf course, and island capi- tal, Castries. OK, it’s over an hour from the airport and the taxi will cost you US$75, but en-route to the resort you’ll get to see a good glimpse of the island. THE ROOM: Our room was more like an apartment than a hotel room. It had two TVs, wifi , tea/coffee, monster shower, generous balcony, fabulous sea views, comfortable sitting room and nice room staff to keep it spotless. KEY FACILITIES: There is a wide range of activities including water sports, a good selection of spa treatments, ad- venturous island activities and dozens of excursions (tell clients to try the zip- lining – wow!). Also boat/catamaran trips, including sunset/romantic.
THE VERDICT
RESTAURANTS/BARS: There are fi ve res- taurants in all – two main restaurants, a French restaurant (surcharge applies), ‘The Pier’ where you can eat whilst overlooking the sea, and a family pool- side restaurant. There are four bars, located by the pools, plus a quieter pool away from the crowds. Nice!

With endless options – from lazy to super-active – stunning views, and a great range of facilities, St James’s Club has something for everyone. The friendly and polite staff add an extra enjoyment. This is definitely a holiday resort that is easily recommended.
Millbrook is an outstanding resort for golfers and non- golfers alike. Its style, sophistication and exemplary service is nicely softened by the friendly informality of kiwis (and non-kiwis too). With some 250 staff ready to spoil, Millbrook would be a great treat to include on any itinerary which took in the stunning Queenstown area.
