“SELLING CRUISE ISN’T TOO BIG SO IT’S EASIER TO SPEAK TO PEOPLE THAN AT AN EVENT LIKEWTM”
SANDRA DYER, MANAGING DIRECTOR, SN TRAVEL
WHAT THEY SAID... Cruise Holidays: “It’s the first time I’ve
been to the Selling Cruise Conference and I’m impressed with the organization. It’s great to have everyone under one roof. Being a homeworker I don’t get to meet sales reps so it’s a fantastic way to network as well as pick up brochures and enjoy the food and entertainment.” Sharon Allen, Cruise Holidays, Grimsby
Portsmouth Int'l Port “It’s important
for us to attend because Portsmouth will host 44 ships this year – the largest-ever number. We are now the base for many cruise ships,
including Voyages of
Discovery’s Voyager, Fred. Olsen’s Boudicca, Noble Caledonia’s Island Sky and, for the first time, Thomson Cruises' Thomson Celebration.” Emma Gaisford, Portsmouth Port
Royal Caribbean International: “Market research shows that people choose a cruise based on destination, but a cruise will only come to a client's mind if it’s been recommended. Knowledge, passion and recommendation is all that selling cruise takes.” Jo Rzymowska, Associate Vice President & General Manager, Royal Caribbean International
Director of the UK chapter of Association
(CLIA), Andy Harmer, told delegates. Selling Cruise Conference is the new name for the ACE Cruise Convention after the Association of Cruise Experts (ACE) and the Passenger Shipping Association (PSA) merged to became CLIA this May. Said Harmer: “The CLIA will focus on
growing the UK cruise industry through consumer PR and enhancing training and events for the trade." He also announced that CLIA’s online training programme for
agents has been endorsed by vocational education awards body City and Guilds. Speakers at the conference included Jo
Rzymowska, Associate VP and GM of Royal Caribbean International, who spoke of the cruise industry's enormous growth, which sees 21 new ships launching in 2013, including 15 new river vessels. She said: "Back in 1999 one in 26 package holidays was a cruise, today it's one in eight.” Other speakers included Daniel Skjeldam, CEO of Hurtigruten and Angela Caes, Global Sales Director of Tauck. Agents were able to inspect Royal
Caribbean’s Adventure of the Seas, Royal Princess, Fred. Olsen’s Balmoral and P&O’s Azura.
