Burnham Signs rises again

Occupational Health and Safety Awards, for its behavioural safety training and initiatives.

40 per cent of the company’s incidents

are hand and arm injuries; to combat this, new initiatives involving external and theatre-style training were instigated - one scene is a ‘wife’s speech’ to show the ripple effect of injuries.

In total, the company won 12 awards,

including the new MORR (Management of Occupational Road Risk) Technology Trophy won by CEMEX Logistics. Visit www.cemex.co.uk

FPS’s E-Pile schedule removes ambiguity

S

tocksigns has re-introduced the Burnham Signs brand of vitreous enamel signs for the rail industry. The brand came under Stocksigns’ ownership in 2004 but despite trading under its banner, 177 years of Burnham’s sign making could not be forgotten. The Stocksigns umbrella name has lead to some confusion in the marketplace, with the belief that the company only manufactures and ‘stocks’ signs. The decision to promote the different business streams that serve the signage market is intended to clearly define the service range it provides. Visit www.stocksigns.co.uk

Gold standard performance for CEMEX

C

EMEX Rail Solutions has won a gold award at the 2013 Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents’

project and in-line with BIM. Andrew Bell, chief engineer at Cementation Skanska and member of the FPS technical committee, said: ‘With the advent of Eurocodes, loading details relevant to pile design has become ever more complex. As such there is a much greater margin for error when deriving the appropriate design loadings, compared to the traditional standard approach. E-Pile Schedule removes any ambiguity in the derivation of pile loadings with piling details delivered to the structural engineer in an easy-to-use standardised format, so the piling contractor no longer has to ‘make a judgment’ on the loading conditions.’ Visit www.fps.org.uk

Badgemaster gains ISO 14001

efficiencies by providing data in a standardised format, but is also designed to eliminate potential errors with loading details, assisting structural engineers throughout the specification and design process.

T The Microsoft Excel-based E-Pile

Schedule, which can be downloaded from the FPS website (www.fps.org.uk), is available for British Standard and Eurocode design approaches and eliminates the need to input data manually – an advantage to all those potentially involved in a construction

he Federation of Piling Specialists has introduced an E-Pile Schedule that not only increases information

he UK’s largest name badge manufacturer has gained the ISO 14001 environmental accreditation from the British Standards Institute. It is the only company in the industry to have done so. Director John Bancroft said: ‘The ISO 9001 for quality management and the ISO 14001 for environmental standards are two sides of the same coin for us. They both show our commitment to our customers and what is important to them. Part of this is an obligation to continually improve processes, keep up to date with new technology and to always strive for the best.’ Visit www.badgemaster.co.uk
