THINGS WE LOVE
Things we love from this edition
Caroline loves... All the floristry pieces at Chelsea were fab but Di Marvell’s just thrilled me. As Press I was lucky enough to be able to leap the barriers and get right up close and the detail was amazing. Every individual element was exquisite – from the tiny circles within circles, skeleton leaves and of course flowers but then finished off with miniature clock faces and clock innards, teeny tiny silver charms even Chelsea Pensioner Buttons. I’d have actually bought it for my wall!
Hannah loves... I saw these magical bronze sculptures at Chelsea. Made by Robert James they’re all literary characters, mostly inspired by the ‘Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland’ books and really do match their aim to “bring feelings of wonder and enchantment from childhood into the contemporary garden.” Costing between £200 and £21k they’re not cheap but you can see them on display at RHS Hampton Court and RHS Tatton.
Emily loves... I found these wonderful orchids
through an internet meme so contacted one of the world authorities on the genus, Gary
Meyer, Ph.D., to find out more: Their proper name is Draculas, (little dragon in Latin) because that’s what people thought they looked like - not monkey orchids as a lot of people think. Very rare, and endangered species, they grow in the wet, foggy, cool, neotropical mountain cloud forests of Colombia and Ecuador, usually attached to trees. Sadly though they are not suitable as houseplants so I can’t have one!
