Corinne Du Preez wins SCOTY 2013


Corinne Du Preez, from Kings Court First School in Windsor, has been named LACA School Chef of the Year (SCOTY), sponsored by Maggi from Nestlé Professional.


She was voted as the nation’s best school chef by a panel of judges at the national final – held at the Foodservices Wing, Defence Logistics School, Worthy Down, Hampshire on 15th


regional finalists competed in the live cook-off.


Corinne, who won the South East regional final, is employed by Caterlink for the Royal Borough of Windsor & Maidenhead and prepares around 95 meals a day for 4-9 year-olds.

she was “so proud” and added: “With the standard in the competition being so exceptionally high, I felt it was an achievement in itself to compete with such a talented group of people.” LACA national chair Anne Bull said the competition sends a clear message to headteachers, governors, parents and children, about the importance of nutritional standards.


“Our talented front line staff need their continued support in order to ensure high quality, nutritious school meals, as well as tasty, highly creative and appealing dishes,” she said. “These meals can make a major contribution towards altering eating habits, changing diets and decreasing obesity levels – which in turn, research has shown, will help children and young people to improve their academic and physical performance.”


Chefs had just £1.50 to create the two- course menu in 90 minutes.


Graysons Education The Brookwood Partnership has acquired the education catering business of Graysons Restaurants Ltd, for an undisclosed sum. The transaction is in line with the independent school caterer’s recent growth plans and presence in the north of England and will see it operating in the south and north of the country.


Graysons Education will continue to trade under the new ownership of The Brookwood Partnership. The combined revenues are expected to exceed £40m, with a workforce of approximately 1,320 employees. Sue Parfett, managing partner for Brookwood, said: “Graysons Education is a successful national business that has grown each year since formation. We are delighted to have them on board.”


Innovate renovates school’s catering facilities

Innovate Services has launched brand new catering facilities at George Abbot School in Guildford, which has seen the number of students using the facilities at least treble following its opening after the Easter holidays.


Three areas of the school have been revamped in an effort to offer greater food choice and encourage uptake. They have been designed to provide an increased menu choice, including a ‘World Food’ concept in one building. Innovate was awarded the George Abbot contract in


mid-March and had just over two weeks to complete its refurbishment and open up. “There is a new buzz in the school and both students and staff are very positive about the choice of foods available,” commented Julian Seymour, the school’s business manager. “Student numbers have at least trebled since the launch and the number of staff using the facilities has also increased.” Students were invited to share their views on what they wanted from the new catering site in an online survey and four pupils took part in an interviewing panel.
