into the wealth of skill among school caterers and we hope that by developing the competition to include live classes and categories for pupils and students to enter, the status of the competition will continue to grow. “We look forward to awarding even
more in 2013, with the new live and student classes. From what we have
seen and
speaking to chefs, 2013 is going to be even tougher to mark.”
Anne agrees: “The standard is absolutely
amazing. You’ve never seen anything like it. There are so many categories;
sugarcraft,
cakes, decorated cakes, petit fours and more.” She adds: “We are hopeful of seeing an increase in the number of entries, despite the economic downturn and pressures we are all facing – and what better way is there to openly display the talents within our industry? In addition, I know that
each entrant gains pleasure and
enjoyment – together with pride – from their participation.”

THE EXHIBITION Running alongside the conference is the LACA Exhibition, the largest gathering of suppliers specifically focused on the school meals market. Over 130 companies will showcase food and beverages, equipment, systems and services. Among those include Youngs Seafood, which will be promoting its newest products for the education sector, its Ross range – quality fish products that include ‘no fry zone’ items.
CSM UK will be showcasing its vast range of bakery products, while McCain will return for 2013 with its products such as the Simply Potato range – to make life easier for school caterers. The familiar faces of the Mars Foodservice team will also be at the event with its Dolmio and Uncle Ben’s ranges of school products.
Visitors can find out more about Radnor Hills’ range of school compliant drinks products, including the popular Radnor Fizz sparkling juice, which promise to add a point of difference and offer variety in the
school canteen and other campus sites. Love
Joes, meanwhile, will
be
showcasing its authentic range of toppings and marinades and showing how caterers can make more of ‘flavours of the world’. Its Love Wrappin Joes – a healthy grab and go concept which makes ordering a wrap as much fun as eating it – will also be on display.
EDUcatering Magazine will also be taking a stand this year, showcasing the new EDUcatering Toolkit website, www.
educateringtoolkit.co.uk. Visitors can ask us about the promotions on the site and find out how easy it is to use. And come and tell us if you’ve used the free resource already! Don’t forget to head to the LACA
Partners Demonstration Kitchen. This is a series of live demonstrations hosted by the Partners with LACA during the exhibition, giving visitors the chance to see the latest products in action and offering a wealth of ideas to take back to the workplace, including demonstrations by the 2013 LACA School Chef of the Year.
