FOOD ALLERGY UPDATE Vita Whitaker, Whitco After several years of consultation and negotiation, the EU Food Information for Consumers Regulation (EU) No 1169/2011 was published on 22nd into force 20 days later on 13th


December.


The new directive will hugely affect the mass caterer, in which their business is to prepare open food ready for consumption. Vita recently graduated with a doctorate in food allergies, with emphasis on the impact of this new legislation and will update delegates on the likely implications for education caterers.

11.45-12.15 FAMILY FOOD APPRECIATION PROJECT Mark Rigby, development chef, Premier Foods and Martin Bates, CEO, Craft Guild of Chefs The Family Food Appreciation Project is a joint LACA/CGOC initiative, currently at the pilot stage, where chefs visit local schools to work with children, teachers and parents on how to provide simple nutritious meals using quality ingredients. The plan is to roll this project out, so fi nd out how your school can get involved.

Finishing Touches is a static culinary display salon organised by LACA in association with the Craft Guild of Chefs and sponsored by Dr Oetker. Now in its seventh year, the competition is aimed at all levels of staff employed in any aspect of local authority catering capable of producing excellent craft pieces. It provides entrants with the opportunity to show off their skills which would not normally be seen during their every day profession.


The Finishing Touches Display Salon will take place during the LACA Main Event on Wenesday 10th


and Thursday 11th July at the Hilton Birmingham Metropole.


There are two live classes that have been added to the competition line-up. There will be one savoury class and one sweet class, and these will take place in the Partner’s demo theatre in the Westminster Suite on the morning of Thursday 11th


July.
