COLIN MCINTOSH The Big Interview

A school pupil kneads bread as part of a programme in Reading to get children cooking

“I don’t think you can do school meals without having a moral compass,” he says. “There’s something inside of you that says ‘I’ve got to do my best for these children because I have to give them the best opportunities’.

“I don’t go around doing the health education message but I make sure that they understand why it’s important to eat a meal and not to just go for the pudding,” Colin adds. “And children get that in Reading. Every council exists to make the lives of their community better and it’s nice to think that I can walk down the street and know I’ve made a difference through my contribution, no matter

how small it is.” June 2013 13
