Schools can harness the benefits of the latest product developments in these areas and offer their pupils healthy and nutritious snacks outside dining hours, providing sustenance throughout the school day and boosting sales.


Among the free seminars, run by industry experts from the Facilities Management Association and leading vending consultants 24Vend, is a focus on healthy eating on Wednesday 12th


June. During the morning conference delegates can enjoy sampling a range of healthy new products across the snack and beverage categories. The seminar programme will focus on how to incorporate healthy options into existing vending portfolios, to attract new vending


isitors to this year’s AVEX show, held in conjunction with the European Drinking Water Cooler Association (EDWCA), will soon come to realise that there is so much more to vending than confectionery and that they can be utilised extremely effectively in schools.


As Jonathan Hilder, chief executive of the AVA, repeatedly says in EDUcatering’s monthly Vending Viewpoint article, issues such as obesity and allergens are


consumers as well as driving profits. There is also the finals of the University Food Development Award for University College Birmingham students, who have been working on new food and packaging concepts for six different vending markets, addressing some of the key issues of today such as obesity, recycling of packaging, allergens and government regulations regarding salt and sugar levels. Individual criteria also included the need for snacks for schools that meet guidelines. Among the products to be judged by an expert panel were Dought-lightful Subs for the education market.
