Porterbrook is one of the strongest names in UK rolling stock leasing with a strong track record of investment in new fleets and for enhancement of existing stock using latest technology to improve passenger comfort and extend vehicle life.


Lease arrangements vary to suit train operating companies’ requirements and Porterbrook takes a lead in the development of new services with a strong orientation towards customer service and innovation. This support extends to third parties including material and technology suppliers, rolling stock maintenance facilities and repair/refurbishment businesses.


In addition to passenger trains, Porterbrook invests in freight wagons and locomotives giving a broad and diverse rolling stock portfolio and is well positioned to build on its’ position as a leading player in the UK rail industry.


The Commercial Manager role focusses on the utilisation and profitability of regional fleets and the management of relationships with customers and suppliers to maximise business opportunities. Key activities will include:


• Maintain knowledge of customers’ businesses and plans together with wider rail industry strategic, regulatory and political developments


• Develop commercial opportunities and negotiate fleet modification programmes and manage lease contracts


• Anticipate and address customer and supplier issues; implementing solutions that maintain good relations and high service standards


• Monitor fleet usage, vehicle condition and maintenance, reviewing contract arrangements and strategies with customers


• Report information to colleagues across the business on regional fleet activity, development plans and business opportunities


Candidates will have a strong track record of business development, negotiation and commercial management together with a sound understanding of lease agreements and contractual arrangements.


Customer and supplier relationship management skills should be proven and knowledge of rail vehicle maintenance and overhaul will be valuable.


There is a very competitive remuneration package and relocation assistance may also be available.
