A crane for all situations T

E H Hassell & Sons has worked in the crane industry since 1974, and in 1998 was nominated as UK agent for the German crane manufacturer Sennebogen

he versatile 608 Multicrane has been designed and developed by Sennebogen to provide the markets with a multi-functional

machine using a quick hitch system. It can easily switch between different attachments including an 8 ft lift capacity winch, forks, manbasket (conforming to EN280 regulations), bucket as well as other types of lifting solutions. The 608 is primarily a crane with strong boom sections, reliable hydraulic systems and a wide outrigger footprint for sturdy 360 degree lifting capacities. The machine can also be converted to rail operations providing a neat solution in a challenging environment. With these unique benefits, Himmel

& Papesch Bauunternehmung decided to invest in the 608, converted for rail, to work on securing the cliffs along the Hadamar railway line. The company needed a very special

solution for this particular piece of work. In order to protect the track ballast for rail traffic and ensure that the cliff was secured as quickly as possible, the SENNEBOGEN 608 was equipped with a hydraulically folding upwards rail carriage and a working platform affixed to the lifting forks. The drill mast was mounted on this platform. The boom length of 20 metres enabled all securing points to be reached with ease. In this way, approximately 3,000 m² of wire netting was fixed quickly and economically, ensuring safe, disruption- free rail traffic.

Compact ‘The 608 was ideal for this job because of its compact design,’ said Lothar Latosik, site manager for Himmel & Papesch. ‘We kept having to free up the rails to make way for trains, and get the 608 back onto the track in a very restricted space.’ Four-wheel steering with three possible steering modes endows the SENNEBOGEN Multicrane 608 with outstanding manoeuvrability. In combination with the hydrostatic travel drive and powerful 91 kW TIER III engine, the permanent four-wheel drive ensures good traction and speeds of up to 18 mph, even on difficult terrain. A unique feature in this class is the

comfortable cab, which can be elevated to a viewing height of 4.1 meters and tilted to 17° using a foot-operated switch. ‘This was a major advantage when setting up

and precisely positioning the drill mast. It saved us a great deal of time and enabled us to work more safely as well,’ said Latosik. The operator controls are arranged clearly, in line with the latest considerations in ergonomics, and provide the machine with excellent handling.

Versatile Another advantage of the SENNEBOGEN 608 Multicrane lies in its versatility. The quick-change system means that a wide range of attachments can be affixed quickly and reliably. As customers will see, there are numerous ways of putting this machine to work on construction sites. Other features of the 608 include a

strong 4-cylinder diesel engine with 91kW power and a hydroclean option to protect the hydraulic components, thus reducing maintenance and repair costs. Daily services are easily completed from the ground with a hydraulic elevating tilting cab resiliently mounted for excellent operator views plus the 360 degree rotating manbasket with remote control. The safe load indicator can be set with a virtual wall to protect areas around the machine. E H Hassell & Sons has been

successfully working within the crane industry since 1974 and was nominated UK agent in 1998 for the German

crane manufacturer Sennebogen based in Straubing, Germany. In the UK Sennebogen machines have been sold to many businesses from ports to construction companies, plant hire and recycling/waste. The product range includes Harbour

mobile cranes, heavy duty lattice boom crawlers, pure lifters, lattice boom crawlers, wheeled mobile lattice boom telescopic crawlers, telescopic wheeled mobiles, truck mounted telescopic and material handlers.
