TECHNOLOGY IN ACTION

LED lighting in industry gathers momentum

L

ED technology is used to illuminate machine and operator assembly areas, replacing traditional halogen lamps and fluorescent lighting. IDEC was early to this market, first introducing its LF1A series (IP54) back in 2009 for light industrial applications. Since then the company has developed a comprehensive family of LED industrial lighting systems. Today, with over seven distinctly different styles - some models offering six different colours - you can be certain IDEC has the right solution for you. The most recent addition to this family is the new LF1B-N series (illustrated), boasting the most variation in terms of colour and length, and protected to IP65. The unit is also compact being only 27.5mm wide by 16mm high, allowing installation in the narrowest of spaces. When it comes to length there are six to choose from, ranging from 134mm to 1,084mm.

The six colours are:

Red (handling of photo-sensitive material; darkroom illumination; semiconductor manufacturing) Yellow (IC foundries; semiconductor manufacturing) Warm White (food processing machinery and inspection; cosmetic manufacturing plant; chemical plant)

Cool white (machine tool inspection & test machines; control panel

The blue and green variants can be used in more aesthetic lighting applications such as show cases.

Technical details (information relates to the 'pure white' variant] • Degree of Protection: IP65 • Input Current: 60mA to 720mA • Power Consumption: 1.5W to 17.3W • Operating Temperature: -30 to +50oC (no freezing) • Reference luminance: 90 lx (for 134mm version) to 935 lx (for 1080mm version) (at 0.5m directly below) • Life (70% lamination): 40,000 hours • Rated Voltage: 24Vdc • Cable length: 1m or 3m options

Such is the increase in development of LED products for industry we are pleased to announce our dedicated website www.LEDforIndustry.com visit to learn about the complete LED product range from IDEC.

Delmatic provides cutting edge lighting for state-of-the-art forensic centre

est Yorkshire Police’s new, state-of- the-art Scientific Support Centre has been equipped with a cutting edge Delmatic Dali lighting management system. The system provides Dali control throughout the complex and combines Dali switching, dimming and monitoring of lighting with Dali testing and the monitoring of emergency lighting. Nicknamed "CSI Wakefield", the purpose- built 8,000 sq.m facility is officially called the Alec Jeffreys Building after Sir Alec Jeffreys who developed DNA genetic profiling, and is home to the Force’s Imaging Unit, Scenes of Crime section and Forensics Specialists such as the Fingerprint Bureau and the DNA Bureau. The centre is now home to about a million fingerprint files. The Delmatic system controls lighting throughout the complex including the laboratories, open plan offices, training facilities, imaging studios, photography rooms, as well as within archive and document storage. The project was designed using Dali plug-in modules which provide all the dimming, energy-efficiency and monitoring benefits of Dali without the need to address ballasts on-site. This Dali plug-in approach simplified and speeded up project commissioning. Energy-efficiency is achieved through the use of presence/absence detectors within the majority or areas with daylight-linked dimming in perimeter areas: external lighting is controlled by a combination of astronomical solar clock software and external photocell. Animated graphics display real-time status of lighting including lamp and ballast failure as well as the performance of emergency lighting and emergency battery packs.
