Hager has developed a new spacer pattress box that helps prevent deliberate cable damage because it allows a flexible cable to exit flush to the wall rather than through the front face of a fused spur or 20A switch. The box is well suited for elec- tric night storage heaters and elec- tric hand dryers in public locations, where there is a danger of the cable being tugged either accidently or intentionally. This guar- antees that the cables comply with interna- tional standards such as NFPA 79-2012 and UL 758 without problems. The NFPA standard defines which cables and conductors can be used in an industri- al environment. Before the NFPA standard’s update in 2012, the use of Appliance Wiring Material (AWM) cables was not allowed according to the NFPA 79-2007 standard. Nevertheless, AWM cables have been used for years in many different appli- cations within the industry. In high dynam- ic applications, such as those found in energy chains, NFPA 79-2007 compliant cables did not meet with the demands in relation to durability, reliability, lifetime and

The result is the NFPA 79-2012 standard, which gives mechanical engineers more freedom with regards to the use of cables that are specifically designed for continu- ously dynamic applications.

Flexicon’s new extended range of Flexilok flexible conduit fittings now consist of four teeth fittings as standard that will provide added cable security and system integrity. Greater all-round grip is now available, as is safety for 42mm and 54mm conduit systems. Also available is a removal tool, should the fitting ever need to be removed. The Flexilok range can be used with fine or coarse pitch nylon and polypropylene flexible conduits. The moulded fittings are classed as low fire hazard products and are halogen-, sulphur- and phospho- rus-free, as well as having an IP66 rating, anti-vibration and tamper resistant properties. Getting to grips with connections


A new range of Nylon cable glands has been introduced by HellermannTyton that come complete with lock nuts and washers providing contractors with the grip required to achieve a spanner tight seal.


The glands are suitable for a range of applications when connecting electrical cable and equipment, catering for a variety of cable sizes. Manufactured from Nylon 66 material, the glands provide cable protection and require no disassembly for cable installation - just insert the cable and tighten. The glands have an IP rating of IP68, are available in metric or PG threads and are suitable for use with cables up to 44mm diameter.
