Tornton House is constructed of dressed sandstone with black and white painted half timbered upper elevations all under an


impressive York stone flagged roof and high brick chimney stacks. In architectural terms the house has much to commend it and is


worthy of its Grade II listing. Castle Hill House £995,000


Castle Hill House dates from the later part of the 18th century and is listed Grade II being of special architectural and historic importance. It is a fine example of Georgian architecture and has a particularly attractive front façade which incorporates a 6-panel door in pedimented Roman Doric case with columns beneath a


Looped radial-bar fanlight. Built in 1778 of brick on a stone plinth with white paintedpart rendered elevations under a slate roof, the house was originally of typical four-square plan with the present sitting room quite possibly being the former kitchen. Extensions


were subsequently implemented in the 1830’s and 40’s for a George Walker and in more recent years has been subject to a scheme of restoration in the 1990’s.
