FESTIVAL FEVER

Brrrrr! Winter Music Festival, Toronto

Welcome back to Festival Fever, a place where we focus on huge parties and bring you previews of many of the world’s biggest dance music events. This edition we take you to Toronto, Canada to learn about a new outdoor winter music festival taking place at Echo Beach, inside Ontario Place on Friday February 1 and 2. Reminiscent of the annual Igloofest in Montreal, Brrrrr! Winter Music Festival has caught waves of attention and promises to be a thrilling experience. Dress warm, keep dancing and everything will be perfect. A number of fan favourites are scheduled to keep feet moving with their hot grooves, and the experienced teams behind this event will certainly set up impressive stage productions that will keep fans fully engaged throughout both evenings.

This extensive production is put together by Electronic Nation plus a cast of reputable promoters like Uniq Lifestyle, Embrace, and Destiny Events. Electronic Nation is the same committed team that was behind the very successful Digital Dreams Festival, an event which went down this summer within the grounds of Ontario Place and saw dozens of international headliners invade Toronto for upwards of 20,000 fans. The Echo Beach venue is a perfect setting for music lovers to come together and brave the cold as they dance under the stars of the winter sky. Heated VIP sections will be provided for the fans that opt for bottle service and there will be a second stage setup inside a heated dome to give everyone a chance to catch some warmth.

A cast of favourite local DJs will play support roles throughout the two days, and the winner of the DJ contest will also have their time to shine. Brrrrr! is looking for a student DJ to spin at the event, if you are interested in further details check the website and learn how you can submit your entry for a chance to play at the festival.

The lineup is stirring up a buzz with names like Moby, Dubfire, Danny Avila and Deniz Koyu among others all set to come battle the elements alongside thousands for this frosty festival. Moby is a legendary American producer and DJ that has sold more than 20 million albums worldwide. He is considered a pioneer of dance music going back to the early nineties when he helped put the industry on the map in UK and in America with his techno releases. Dubfire also has a reputation for laying down some gripping techno. After his monumental success as one half of the popular duo Deep Dish, his solo career has seen him make the transition from the signature progressive sounds he played with Sharam, into a full blown techno juggernaut representing sleek, sexy, minimal grooves characterized by dark basslines and masterful high hats. His timeless remix of Radio Slave’s “Grindhouse” swept across the world’s biggest dance floors in 2009 and pushed his dark rhythms into the spotlight.

DBerrie, Jeff button, Miss Kittin, Magda, Nitin, DJ Addy, Justin Martin, Osunlade and Jokers of the Scene are all on the poster and bring with them a huge following of fans. Miss Kittin is a deeply talented musician and DJ from France with over a decade of experience. Her deep electro tracks and tech sounds will keep everyone moving. The Jokers of the Scene will definitely drop a huge set. Being mentioned among the most cutting edge DJs in Canada and working with A-Trak’s Fool’s Gold label has helped

them rank among the brightest stars in Canada’s dance music industry. Originally from Ottawa and now based in Toronto these two always put on a sick show for the fans.

The extensive lineup goes on with more talent, Chus & Ceballos, Moguai, Mikael Weermets, Deniz Kurtel and Mord Fustang will all have their chance to get on stage and take the decks as the Toronto crowd parties on. Chus & Ceballos have shown remarkable versatility with their blend of house and techno. They are considered by many to be among Spain’s leading pair of DJs and have gained worldwide recognition with an onslaught of hit releases and marathon DJ sets. Moguai is a German producer and DJ with a huge repertoire of releases, best known for his track “U Know Y”. He is now one of few artists that have releases on Deadmau5’s record label, mau5trap. Although the full lineup includes a number of techno titans, Mord Fustang’s energetic electro house tracks and disco basslines will be a great change of pace and surely a great addition to an already remarkable lineup.

A line of merchandise has been made available on the website including festival branded toques, mittens and other items. This event is shaping up to be one of Toronto’s best winter parties of 2013 and is certainly another testament to the growth of the industry throughout the region. More artists than ever are now being booked to play countless shows in Canada and dance music is quickly making a very noticeable foot print. This unique event helps capture the essence of being Canadian and toughing the cold. The snow is here to stay, break your scarves out and make the best of it at Brrrrr!
