hungry and the drive to become better producers and performers is never ending. We certainly all appreciate being able to live off this right now; it means the world to us. We all know what it is like to be broke; we were there. We are playing all over the country and we have fans and that is an amazing feeling but we will never stop being hungry. Jahan: I hate it when artists get really lazy because they think they’ve made it. I don’t think even a year from now we will feel like we made it. We will always keep building.
One of your biggest fans would like to know… Jahan: Do we have three-somes? NO!
Well not quite! She would like to know what it is like to be away from your cats?
Jahan: Oh my gosh, it is really hard! Yasmine: Do you know how many times I have cried over my kitties? I am not evening kidding! I miss them so much!
How has life changed since signing with Columbia Records?
Kris: Well, a lot more time spent at the airport! I live at the airport more than I live at my apartment. Jahan: Kris that has nothing to do with Columbia! Honestly, it is just a support system, which helps us push our EP internationally. We are very appreciative that they decided to sign us.
This question is directed more toward Kris. How would you profile each member of your group?
If you could perform with any artist, who would it be? Why?
Kris: Avicii, but just for the song Levels. Jahan: I would really love to perform with another house artist. I am trying to think of a good one. We actually just finished our tour with Benny Bennassi and it was a great match for us. Kris: I don’t think you can get better than Benny Yasmine: Actually, you’re right. I really don’t think so! Jahan: Honestly, I would love to do another tour with him. He is in California right now and I really want him to call us up and bring us back out there. Yasmine: He is such a nice guy too. He really stuck his hand out; it was really cool. Jahan: At the end of every night, he would always bring out onto the stage with him. That was a great experience for us. Oh and on the last day of our tour with him, he filled up our rental car with packing peanuts. I think that was his way of saying thank you. It was really cool!
Was there any point thus far in your career where you knew that producing and performing was more than just a hobby but rather a lifestyle?
Kris: That is to be determined. Yasmine: Yeah, I don’t know. We always feel like we are
Kris: I think, honestly, we are all kind of the same depending on the situation. We all just like to rage and have a good time. The truth is I am the one who just doesn’t care and wants to party! Most likely, Yasmine is going to be asleep and Jahan is going to be exploring; I mean actually walking down the street alone. She will just leave and walk around looking for cool stuff. Yasmine: Okay I have had enough of this Kris! It is time for us to get in on this! Jahan: Uh yes! Kris is an alcoholic, Yasmine is Snooki. Yasmine: What? Snooki? Why! Jahan: I don’t know! Sometimes you act like Snooki! Kris: Oh really! Now what are you going to say about yourself? Jahan: Uh… Danny DeVito! Yasmine: Honestly I have only watched that show once, I know that’s bad but it is true.
How do you feel about the evolution of the scene? What do you think dance music is going to become in the future?
Yasmine: I think dance music has become a beautiful thing. It is becoming more popular and widespread. More people are coming to shows and listening to EDM music. People are starting to figure out what this genre of music is all about. I don’t think it should stay, quote un-quote, underground. I think it is a beautiful movement and everybody should be a part of it.
What are you guys working on right nowÉ Any new collaborations coming out soon?
Kris: We are working a little bit with Benny Bennassi and some other producers that we are friends with, maybe something with Gareth Emery in the near future. He is always coming out with cool music and he is a super nice guy. I guess it is all up in the air. Yasmine: Our new track is called, “Come and Get it.” It will be coming out in early November. Kris: Not if I leak it! Yasmine: Yeah with Kris you never know. It might be out tomorrow! But you will hear it at the show tonight. After spending 20 minutes in the hotel lobby with Krewella, we traveled with them to the venue they would be performing at. They hit the stage to the chants of fans packed inside the Bluestone, and opened the set with their single ‘Play Hard,’ which got the crowd jumping early. Even the fans up in the VIP balcony section were into the show, jumping around and dancing. During their set, Krewella mixed in most of their singles, along with some remixes, and as promised, their new unreleased track ‘Come and Get It.’
The Yousaf sisters, Rainman, and even manager Jake Udell had a great stage presence throughout their set. The group incorporated champagne showers and a CO2 cannon to give Columbus a Halloween to remember. After witnessing their live performance, we now see why their fans feel such a strong connection. They are revolutionizing the EDM scene here in the United States, and their influence is continuing to grow with each performance. Their future as dance music innovators is very bright and we look forward to watching them progress as artists. The IHM crew wants to thank Krewella for their time with us, and we look forward to meeting up with them in Dallas on New Year’s Eve for Lights All Night!
