IHM USA SPOTLIGHT

You just finished crushing the UKF launch party, how was the energy? How was the crowd? How was the Venue? What are your thoughts on the show thus far?

Basically, the way that I play shows is, I don’t look at the crowd ever. The thing is, I never look at the crowd because if the crowd is not having fun then I don’t want it to affect my performance. I am always concentrated on my own bubble. I have the best time and performance when I am having a good time! By looking at the crowd, I risk losing out on a fun experience. Tonight, I had an incredible time! I think my set was good; it was on point and I think the crowd enjoyed it… Well at least as much as I did. As I was looking around, I saw that there were a lot of people here, a lot of people who like good music and more than anything people who came here and paid the money to see this show. Let me tell you from someone who was in the crowd, everyone was going nuts during your set!

Well that’s good! Let me tell you, some of the bigger artists, don’t put enough time into production. And then you have an amazing artist, playing with shitty production; it just makes everything look bad!

Agreed, the production level is off the chain tonight. What does this party mean for the UKF brand? What do you think the future of UKF has in store for this new market (USA)?

UKF, for many years now, is a house of very good artists, whether they are known or unknown. Whatever your status, it is a good house to be acclaimed. I have all the respect in the world for UKF. They help everyone and they are all about the music; that is all they really care about. Every song that is sent in, UKF really cares about. I feel like they have helped all of us become who we are today and I will always have the respect for people who help me. If you help me, I will help you. UKF, I tip my hat to them! They are incredible! I am very happy they decided to move into the United States. I think that they have a lot to offer in the US. Although they are very UK oriented, it is just a matter of time before they conquer the US. I am fully backing them up on this one!

You dropped some trap in your set tonight; how do you feel about the proliferation of what is being branded as trap, and does it have a shelf life?

Trap music eh? If you listen to my old songs, “I Scream Nympho” for example; they already have 808’s and they already have a trap sound to them. The whole trap movement is kind of… It’s just hot yo! Some of us people have been listening to trap for two years now. Everyone is “trapped-out” right now, which makes me scared that the music will get overplayed and people will become tired of it. I feel like trap was here ages ago and I was supporting it, I guess people are just now starting to catch on. I mean, I was playing out Waka Flocka like two years ago! I think that everyone coming to a show should be open-minded. There is a place for dubstep, there is a place for trap, there is a place for house, there is a place for Moomba, drum n bass, drum-step, techno, everything; there is a time and place for each genre. When people come into a show, they expect to hear more than one genre. Playing one genre all night plays that style of music out. It makes people get tired of the genre and it makes people reject the genre. There is no reason to hate on dubstep but it has been played out quite a bit. People will come to hate trap music if it keeps being played out so much.

Well hopefully that doesn’t happen.

It’s a shame man! Music is music. If Justin Bieber comes out with a good tune it is a good tune. I will listen to Justin

Bieber IF he ever comes out with a good song. Music is music man. Support everything, love everything. Period!

Tonight, when you announced that you were about to play out your new tune, I thought it was going to be your traditional metal influenced dubstep track, but instead it sounded more like a groovy house song. As an artist do you see yourself starting to expand into other genres?

The first song I ever produced was metal oriented. My second song was jazz oriented. My third was hip-hop oriented and my fourth song was pop oriented. I fuck with everything man! Music is music; if it sounds good then it is a good track. It doesn’t matter what BPM it is, it doesn’t matter what genre it relates to. My new tune is house and guess what? I love it! When it drops, I go crazy for it and I stand behind it and support it. There is no point in being blind man. Music is a wonderful thing. Music is liberal. I don’t think any artist should ever focus on one genre; be open to all things! That is honestly how I feel about my music and I’ll back it up forever. I just made a tune with Miley Cyrus, you know of her right? She has a very pop influenced sound. Guess what? The next song I

made was with Waka Flocka. I am telling you, I experiment with everything! I love everything guys! Music is my only therapy. I have issues, everyone has issues; some people go to a psychiatrist, some people run in the park, I make music. This is my therapy.

Miley Cyrus eh; how did that come to be?

Man, Miley Cyrus is incredibly hot! She is a good-looking girl and you put her on a microphone and she sounds incredible. Yo, if anyone has anything bad to say about Miley… I will fight them! She is incredible. She deserves everything. The song we made together was a great experience. Miley is such a huge star and she has all the rights to be a prick but no, she is super down to earth, very respectful and super cool. I absolutely love her. I would make a tune with her any day of my life. She is incredible!

You also mentioned earlier that you would love to do another collaboration with Waka Flocka, who else is in your crosshairs as a potential collaborator?

Most of the artists that I really want to work with are dead. Amy Winehouse, Bach, they are all dead.
