HARD DANCE / HARDCORE REVIEWS Frontliner feat Nikkita

Death Of A Demon Keep It Up Music 8.5

Frontliner is the artist I’m tipping to explode into headline fame this year, after breaking into the lucrative Top 100 DJs last year. Along with the launch of his new label, there is no doubt that the guy is on top form. After a string of vocal and melodic anthems, the big man mixes things up, with this release going for something darker and rawer. With Nikkita’s ever-twisted vocals, this is a sure- fire hit for the harder dancefloors and expands Frontliner’s musical repertoire even further.

Luca Antolini A New Poison (Sa.Vee.Oh

Ayah Marar Raver (Darren Styles

Remix) Pilot

10

From the moment I heard this d&b anthem, I thought the vocal was equally — if not more so — suited to the hardcore scene, so it was with great delight that I saw that hardcore legend Darren Style was in on remix duties. Styles keeps all the vibe and charm of the original intact, but with a four-to-the-floor approach to keep the kick and bass dancefloors happy. A great crossover track that will make this an anthem in the hardcore scene, as well as in drum & bass.

Activator Let The Bodies Hit The Floor

(Medley Bodies) Activator Digital 8.0

Activator releases his autumn EP with three new singles, as well as a bonus chill-out track — I would never have expected that on a hardstyle label! This is my pick of the bunch here, featuring distorted kicks, heavy metal-style vocals, screeching stabs and dark hook lines.

Da Tweekaz feat Oscar Break The Spell (Hixxy

Remix) Dirty Workz 9.0

No, not a typo, UK happy hardcore legend Hixxy steps up to remix Nordic hardstyle duo Da Tweekaz! I wasn’t sure what to make of this on paper, but listening to the track with neutral ears, if you hadn’t heard the original,

72

you wouldn’t have guessed it was originally even a hardstyle tune! Great work from Hixxy spotting the potential for this remix, and DWX for allowing it to happen. It’s this cross-pollination of music that makes the scene so exciting at the moment.

Dark By Design vs Chris Tait

Jack Knifed Absolution Digital 7.0

Leader of the sinister hard dance sound, Dark By Design returns and teams up with Chris Tait to deliver this hard trance masterpiece, combining dark undertones with an epic melody in the main breakdown. Edging on euphoria but keeping that DBD sound running throughout, this proves he hasn’t lost his touch at writing those very catchy melodies.

Darksiderz

The Energy Of Sound Hard Dance Nation 8.0

One of the main players on the North American hard dance scene as well as one of the nicest guys around, Darksiderz gives us his own twist on hardstyle for this release. Featuring heavy jump-style kicks, throbbing off-beat basslines and distorted synth leads combined with a few screeches here and there, and a meaningful vocal sample, this ticks all the right boxes.

Remix) United Styles 8.0

Italian hard trance overload on this release, as Sa.Vee.Oh tackles Luca’s single, released on his artist album last year. Expect typical Sa.Vee.Oh style on this one with his trademark rolling heavy bassline, hard punchy kicks and some serious power throughout. It stays very true to the original mix, but with Sa.Vee.Oh’s sound running throughout.

Randy Kitana In Silence (Organ Donors

Remix) Audio Surgery 8.5

The Donors are back with their trademark bleeps and bassllines on this remix for Dutch legend Randy Kitana. The tempo is a little more along the lines of the trance scene, with the big epic melody to match, but this will still appeal to the harder floors with its tough and techy drops and ravey bleeps. There is a reason why the Organ Donors are commanding so much attention at the moment, and this remix is a perfect example of why.

Wildstylez & Atmozfears

What It’s Like Scantraxx 8.5

The brightest young duo on the hardstyle scene team up with one of the most established names on this release, for a vocal hardstyle anthem, ticking all the boxes for euphoria and power. I can already imagine this in the background of a Defqon One aftermovie! Keep your eye on Atmozfears in 2013, these guys are going to blow up.

Cally Gage & Lucy Fur

Something Different N-Gaged

7.0

Cally teams up with Lucy for the next release on her new label, featuring singalong vocals combined with hoovers and ferocious filtering effects.

Deepack

Statement Of Noise Anarchy 7.0

The latest offering from the original hardstyle party duo on their new Anarchy imprint. As ruff and ready as they come.

DJ KUTSKI kutski@mac.com QUICKIES

Gareth Emery Tokyo (Chuck-E & Tranz-Linquants

Remix) CDR

8.5

Cheeky bootleg here, put together by south Wales’ finest, keeping the structure of the original but adding a powerful offbeat bassline to beef things up for the harder floors.

Transfarmers

Here We Go Again DWX Bounce 8.0

Some jump-style silliness at its finest from this Dr Rude side project. As quirky as they come, and guaranteed to get the party bouncing.
