HAPPY NEW YEAR!

2013 has arrived and the world is still intact. The _ _ _ bubble keeps expanding and dance music continues to blaze new inroads into mainstream North American culture this year as the torch has officially been passed to the new breed of stadium superstar DJs. It’s hard to escape now as we find ourselves in the thick of the so-called EDM arms race with mega conglomerates buying up promotion companies and billions in spending on electronic pop music hype in Vegas. On the other end of the spectrum, the underground remains as strong and vibrant as ever, just ask our cover stars this month: Toronto natives Jonny White and Kenny Glasgow – also known as Art Department. These two cats are keeping it cool as ever with groovy and deep house tunes that keep them way ahead of the curve.

Back on the main stage, we introduce a new column this month dedicated to the visual side of event production, welcoming two of the industry’s most forward thinking VJs – the Visual Jedi and DJ Infinight. Starting with an in-depth look at Borgore’s ice cream machine DJ booth premiered at EDC Vegas, each month these two will take us behind the scenes of their company Future Visual to learn about the latest in outside-the-box custom visuals and creative video mapping.

As we start the year on the beaches of Playa del Carmen with the house and techno community, we eagerly await the month of January in Canada, where you can find just about any type of dance music you’re looking for. Read on to find out more…
