WE LEARN HOW THE HOMETOWN BOYS HAVE STAYED TRUE TO THEIR ROOTS IN THE FACE OF MASSIVE COMMERCIAL SUCCESS
To many of Toronto’s veteran weekend warriors they are known as Kenny and Jonny, but over the last 3 years the world has come to know them as Art Department. The truth of the matter is that although Kenny Glagow and Jonny White have been a big part of Toronto’s underground culture spanning nearly 2 decades, it took the rest of the world finding out who they are for the whole of Toronto, and the entire country to embrace them. We were lucky enough to catch up with our old friends on their recent return to Toronto.
With a name like Art Department, it is no surprise to find you guys at an art exhibition tonight, and for a great cause in support of MS. Tell us about the event.
Jonny White: As some people may or may not know, I lost my mom last year after suffering for 27 years with the disease. We had the idea to do an art gallery/exhibit fundraiser for a while now, we felt like the timing was right, and we had the opportunity to team up with Red Bull, who provided us this amazing space (381 Queen street west). So we got a whole team together, believe it or not it takes as many people to do a little art gallery show as it does to do a 2000 person event, but it came together really nicely. We have a silent auction using limited prints of some of the album artwork spanning 4 years of No.19 releases.
