AIRPORT SUPERSIZES SIGNAGE

itsubishi Electric has announced the completion of Japan’s largest digital signage system, installed


at Narita International Airpor t, near Tokyo. The system consists of a total of


100 display units and is comprised of 336 individual display panels, including


Panorama Vision – the world’s first 160-degree panoramic organic light- emitting diode (OLED) screen (pictured). Measuring 9.6m x 1.9m, it consists of 2,000 of Mitsubishi’s 96mm x 96mm OLED display panels. Covering all passenger terminal


areas, the system displays airpor t news,


enter tainment and adver tisements, as well as information or emergency announcements if required. Content is delivered and managed via the Mediaway video streaming system, delivering full HD video independently to each unit simultaneously.The system began full- scale operation at the end of June.


APOLLO CINEMASADOPTS NEW EPoS SYSTEMS


The UK’s largest independent multiplex cinema chain, Apollo Cinemas, recently installed new electronic point-of-sale (EPoS) systems. It has equipped each of its 14


cinemas with EPoS systems comprising PC-based touchscreen terminals from J2 Retail Systems that are running software from Vista Enter tainment Solutions. Between them the cinemas have 40


points of sale, each a J2 615 terminal running Vista POS and enterprise


management software, for ticketing and food, drinks and confectionery sales. Imtiaz Ullah, head of IT at Apollo


Cinemas, said: “We pride ourselves on being innovative when it comes to technology.We were the first fully digital circuit in the UK and use equipment such as Sony 4K Digital Cinema projection, Real D screens and Dolby Surround sound that produces a picture detail at the highest level the human eye can see. “We are equally demanding when


it comes to the systems that run our commercial and customer-facing operations. Efficiency at the point of sale is critical to keep queues down and customer service standards high. The performance and reliability that the J2 terminals give us is critical, as is the range of functionality at front-of- house and in the back office that Vista provides to run our business.” It is also developing existing and


new cinemas to include café-bars, lounge areas, gaming andWi Fi.
