Louis/Collinsville prototype meet you missed a great time. There were eight presenters over the two day meet, July 27-28, several hundred models on the tables, many specialized vendors, and around 300 of us there. For those who mumble “nobody builds any more,” or “everybody is ancient in the hobby,” it just is not so. Come to an “RPM” and you will see. A small sampling of what was at STL/Collinsville is shown here.

t is probably not fair to use an air- port code at the head of this col- umn, but that is one of the ways we

keep ourselves organized. Many travel- ers don’t even think of the name of the airport when booking nowadays, as the fun, attempted hook-up bit between George Clooney and his co-star Vera Farmiga showed in the film Up in the Air. In any case, if you missed the St.

Next prototype meets As a reminder, Rails by the Bay is October 13 at Northcut Landing, 5001 25th Ave., NE, Seattle, WA 98105. See www.northwestrpm.com. Naperville (the “big one” of the year)

is October 18-20 at the Marriott on Naper Blvd. Newly renovated under new owners, this is the old location; www.railroadprototypemoders.com has all the information for the 2012 RPM Conference—Naperville.

Bob’s Photo, Naperville weekend On October 18-20 (the same days as

above), Bob’s Photo will be at its own sales area in Room 215 at the Best West- ern, 1617 Naperville Road, down the road and open to all modelers. The hours are 9-9, Thursday-Saturday. The sepa- rate venue allows added sales space.

Let’s start with one of the local St. Louis roads, Missouri Pacific, and Greg Moe’s scratch- built HO caboose. It was built from a photo and plans in the book Cabooses of the MoPac plus information in an old Car Builders Cyclopedia. The carbody is styrene with a few parts rescued from HO kits. This traditional car looks “comfortable,” just right on the rear of a freight. The 60-foot flat is an InterMountain kit with a weathered board by board deck.
