Extensive illustrated articles on Canadian eight-hatch refrigerator cars were published in RMC in December, 1995, and January and February, 1996. Photos show CP cars in the Unit- ed States in such cities as Columbus, Baltimore (1964) and Fort Worth (1964). Colored photos of CP overhead- bunker reefers were published in the book Canadian Pacific Color Guide to Freight and Passenger Equipment, published by Morning Sun books. The book Canadian National Color Guide to Freight and Passenger Equipment has photos of six CN cars, one of two cars awaiting fruit loading in Grimsby, Ontario. The ready-to-run model by True

Line Trains represents one of 200 reefers built for the CPR by National Steel Car in May and June, 1954. Se- ries 283000-283499 had plug doors, NSC-2 ends, flush-mounted roof, steel mesh running board, low tack boards, a Universal style brake wheel and an underslung charcoal heater. The eight roof hatches were fitted such that the four at each end opened towards the car end. The 200 cars represented by this True Line Trains model were de- livered carrying the stepped lettering. The script lettering was applied during repainting starting in 1964. Immedi- ately after completing the 200 cars for the CPR, NSC built five additional identical cars for the Pacific Great Eastern Railway of British Columbia which were subsequently inherited by and painted for the British Columbia Railway. The car lading capacity was 2,268

cubic feet, or 106,000 pounds. The crushed ice capacity was 6,400 pounds or 180 cubic feet. The light weight was

62,100 pounds. The dimensions were interior length 40′-0″, interior width 8′-6″, interior height 6′-8″. The True Line Trains model has a

plastic body with many factory-applied plastic parts, including ladders, brack- et grab irons, corner stirrups, roof hatches, door locking bars, air hoses and underframe parts. Factory-applied metal parts are the hatch supports on the roof, running board, brake plat- form, roof corner grab irons, and grab irons and stirrups beneath the doors. The ice hatch covers are fixed in their closed positions. The charcoal heater and “liquidometer” are correctly locat- ed on the right side of the car. The model has the features of the prototype except that the brake wheel on the model is an Ajax type instead of the Universal type on the prototype. The trucks consist of plastic side

frames and metal wheels on plastic axles. One of the four axles of the review model was out of gauge. The rivet detail on the sides is accurately represented. Kadee couplers are installed. A sheet is included showing a clear exploded dia- gram of the parts of the model. The ready-to-run model weighs four ounces. The freight car brown paint is smooth and even. The stepped CANADI- AN PACIFIC RAILWAY lettering is located six inches too high on the car sides compared to prototype photos. True Line Trains initially offers this

model decorated in CPR stepped block, CP script, PGE brown and BCOL green. The manufacturer also offers two six-packs of the CPR stepped let- tering and one six-pack with the CP script lettering, each car with a differ- ent number. The company expects that distributors will separate the six-packs
