straightforward and the parts fit well. At one time, a British magazine, pos-

Rosebud, but not the sled Keith Wills discussed Rosebud Kit-

master in his column in the July issue. I remember Rosebud. At the time a hobby shop in Baltimore, Maryland, carried a fairly large selection of its kits. I obtained many of them, includ- ing Biggin Hill and City of Truro. Most of the other names elude me

now, although there was an 0-4-0T in the line. Alas, in careless storage and moving, I have lost them all. As I re- member, the molding was excellent and all of the parts fit accurately. The assem- bly diagram included in the article may look complicated, but construction was

2012, RMC, Mr. Wills mentions a Rose- bud Kitmaster model of a Beyer Garratt locomotive and invited comments. I saw such a model in the early 1970’s at the home of a friend, Harry Thompson, with whom I unfortunately lost contact years ago. At the time he lived in Bromsgrove, Worcestershire, Great Britain. It was a model of a British Railways ex-London, Midland & Scottish Rail- way 2-6-6-2, No. 47967-47999, built be- tween 1927 and 1930 for heavy freight service by Beyer, Peacock & Co. All en- gines except two were rebuilt with ro- tating coal bunkers that looked like the drums on ready-mix concrete trucks and that feature was reproduced on the model. All were scrapped between 1955 and 1958. Harry told me that as- sembling the kit had been a pain in the posterior experience, and the wheels did not turn, not because he had mis- applied glue on the bearings but sim- ply because the moving parts fit badly. I tried to talk him into selling me the model but he wouldn’t and at that time it was no longer available from the manufacturer. I did buy an Airfix model of a British

0-4-0 saddle tank which was easily as- sembled and rolled well but motorizing it would have been a job beyond my abilities.
