hite River Junction was a ma- jor New England rail hub in the 1950’s, the era that I model on my Green Mountain Division layout. It played host to two major railroads, the Boston & Maine and the Central Vermont and many years earlier the Woodstock Railroad. There are four ma- jor components to the White River Junc- tion operation. The passenger station serving trains from Montreal, New York and Boston, along with a small adjacent yard which served as a coach yard and to service a nearby freight shed and sev- eral small industries. To the south of the station Boston & Maine had a medi- um-size freight yard, and across the riv- er in West Lebanon the B&M had a large roundhouse and service area. Just around the curve and north of the sta- tion stood the Central Vermont round- house and freight yard. It is the latter operation that I have tried to duplicate on my model railroad.
