hearn Genesis models go to great lengths to capture the look of the pro- totype, and the Erie Lackawanna GP9’s have a few key details which are correct for the prototype and not com- monly found on other GP9 models on the market. The Erie Lackawanna GP9 had a 1,200-gallon fuel tank, which looks small when compared to what is com- monly seen on a GP9. This tank is re- cessed in from the side skirts. At- hearn’s horn type and placement is also correct and unique to the Erie Lackawanna. Leslie A200’s were the horn of choice for this engine and were placed on the roof on either side of the cab, copied on the model, and the sin- gle “firecracker” type antenna is ahead of the cab in its correct location. On the end rails, the m.u. receptacle stands are correct for this engine, an- other nice prototype-specific detail. There are also cab awnings over the windows, as on the Erie Lackawan- na’s units. I like the idea of buying an engine that has these details already taken care of. While I enjoy detailing and painting locomotives, I really like being able to buy correct models like this even more. The paint on the model is absolutely stunning. Paul Tupaczewski, at Prime Mover Decals, supplied the artwork for this locomotive and it is perfect. The colors are 100% accurate, as is the placement of all lettering and heralds. The fonts are also right, as well. This fine paint job just adds to the overall value of this model to Erie Lackawan- na-loving folks like myself. All of the small lettering like the class designa- tion under the road number on the cab is clearly legible, too. The finish on the model is just right, as well. I will end up weathering my models

to represent the Erie Lackawanna dur- ing its darkest years, but that is mere- ly personal preference rather than ne- cessity since it fits my modeling era. I was really impressed by the details present on this model. I love free standing grab irons when they are
done well. These are. The paint is ap- plied to the grab irons cleanly and evenly. There are no blobs of paint from excessive application or foreign objects stuck in the paint. The pilots are adorned with a full set of m.u. hoses and a coupler cut lever. The brake pipe hose is also attached right next to the coupler. The model comes equipped with McHenry couplers. I did swap these out for Kadee scale short shank couplers. I just like the appear- ance and close coupling ability of those better. The steps leading up to the cab are etched metal with the correct hole pattern, and the walkways have a nice looking diamond plate pattern on their walking surface. Cab windshield wipers are installed,
as are roof mounted lift rings. The win- dows even have a black gasket painted to represent the weatherstripping. The side windows also slide back and forth, which is a nice feature. (Mine always seem to end up in some unnatural looking position so I will probably se- cure them in one position later on.) A feature that I really like is the cab interior detailing. The control stand and seats are all well represented and quite visible through the cab windows. The intake grilles are also etched met- al and have the see-through look that one can appreciate. Some of the detail is not at eye level
