Agenda
The Olympics may be on their way out, but the bread and butter of the betting shop is starting to pick up again.
M
anchester City’s first title since 1968 couldn’t have happened in more dramatic fashion in arguably the best
Premier League campaign ever seen. Plenty of focus will be on the two Manchester clubs this year, but the betting on Betdaq shows City are the standout favourites. Across the Atlantic we’re preparing for a busy fortnight as the world’s top tennis players compete for the final Grand Slam of the season. The first three slams have been very busy on the exchange and we’re expecting more of the same at Flushing Meadows. Wimbledon proved another disappointing final appear- ance for Andy Murray and it remains to be seen if he can finally break his Grand Slam duck on his preferred hard-court surface. The racing highlight will no doubt be Frankel’s long-awaited step-up in trip for the Juddmonte Stakes and Europe’s richest handi- cap, the Ebor, will once more be a hugely competitive puzzle for our punters to solve.

Frankel has lit up what has been a fantastic flat season and it will be fascinating to see how he copes with the step up to ten furlongs in the Juddmonte International at York. I suspect he will blow the opposition away again and make it 13 wins from 13 runs - he won’t be much of a price, though. The Ebor is the big betting race of the meeting and we’re currently going 10/1 ‘the field’, which is a measure of how

competitive it is. Our Channel 4/1 Offer sees punters who back a winner at 4/1 or bigger in any of the meeting’s races shown live on Channel 4 get a free bet on the next live Channel 4 race. Premier League action returns on 19 August and we reckon it will be business as usual for the Man- chester Clubs. City are our 11/10 favourites with United at 9/4 (Chelsea 5/1). The City-United straight forecast is 11/4. At the other end of the table, Reading top our relegation market at 11/10, with Southampton at 11/8. The good news for punters is that our Bore Draw offer will be back in action too, meaning any losing pre-match correct score, half-time-full-time and scorecast bets on games that end 0-0 will be refunded.

After a summer of sporting glut- tony, punters will be piling back into the Premier League as the new
season gets underway. The Euros and the Olympics were a real treat, but domestic football is the real bread and butter for Sky Bet, with more money taken on a busy weekend of football than the entire Olympics. With squads taking shape, the bets are already coming in with Manchester United looking to restore order by wrestling the title back from their ‘noisy neigh- bours’ Manchester City, who are the 6/5 favourites. Elsewhere, the US Open tennis gets underway at Flushing Meadows, with Sky Sports coverage always a boost for us, while the Ebor Festival at York and the St Leger in Doncaster, where Camelot is 1/3 to complete the Triple Crown, pull in the punts on the horse racing front.

Away from the considerable draw of soccer, the third test between England and South Africa will be significant as it may be the match
that decides which of the two teams is ranked Number 1 in the world; the US Open will have tennis fans switching on to see whether Murray can take any momentum from his Wimbledon adventure and, in golf, the race to win $10m starts with The Barclays as the Fed Ex Cup playoffs begin. In racing, the York Ebor meeting is one of the biggest meetings of the flat racing season -Frankel will be stepping up in trip in the Juddmonte International on the first day, chasing an inevitable 13th straight win. In September, the main focus will be the Leger meeting where Camelot will be seeking to become the first horse since Nijinsky (1970) to win the Triple Crown. The Irish Champion Stakes is one of the high- lights in Ireland and is likely to have an extremely strong entry as con- nections seek to avoid Frankel. All in all, lots to keep punters enter- tained as the Olympics bows out.
