INFRASTRUCTURE SP better than ever

T

he Starting Price Regulatory Commissionhas given the SP mech- anism a clean bill of health in its latest an- nual report. The Commission said that it believes ‘the established SP is as inde- pendent, robust and transparent now than as at any time in its history’. It added that SISand AMRACboth performed satisfactorily in collecting data from race- courses and added: “Equally, the Commis- sion seeks to

act quickly to deal with any flaws that might under- mine confidence in the system. 2011 saw a major refine- ment in our rules and operating pro- cedures. This en- sures that the SP continues to serve as an important means by which off- course bets can be fairly settled.”

ormer SISboss Phil Siers has been found in breach of contract by the High Court. Siers caused controversy when he moved from

Amalgamated Racing Ltd(AMRAC), operator of the fledgling Turf TV LBO channel, to its main competitor back in 2010 and an article in a Global Betting and Gaming Consultancy newsletter containing sensitive strategic in- formation saw AMRAC take its former boss to court. AMRAC and 50 per cent owner Race-

course Media Group Ltd(RMG) issued a statement welcoming the High Court judg- ment which ruled:“Mr Siers acted in breach of the terms of his service contract of em- ployment.” Siers, who is now MD of Betfred’s Totepool

operation, may be left with a sizeable legal bill if the judge makes him cover the cost of the four day hearing at a later date when the full terms of the order against Siers is decided.

AMRAC managing director Adrian Ford

and RMG chief executive Richard FitzGerald said in a joint-statement: “AMRAC and RMG welcome the decision of Judge Reid who, having assessed the available evidence, has concluded that Mr Siers acted in breach of the terms of his service contract of employ- ment and in breach of confidence by disclos- ing a highly confidential report to a journal- ist/betting consultant. The report contains sensitive commercial information pertaining to the AMRAC business. The judgment sup- ports our rights as employers as we invest in AMRAC and its underlying intellectual prop- erty for the benefit of our stakeholders and customers.”
