Deputy PM celebrates Weir Control & Choke Valves international success

The inaugural launch event for the campaign, which aims to celebrate the UK’s strengths in manufacturing and other sectors, was held in Seoul, South Korea and was attended by UK Deputy Prime Minister, Nick Clegg and British Ambassador to South Korea, Scott Wightman. Weir Control & Choke Valves was invited to
exhibit their products at the event by the British Embassy in Seoul. During the acquisition of Weir International Ltd., the British Embassy in Seoul was supportive in assisting with publicity of the Weir Group within South Korea and were keen to highlight Weir Control & Choke Valves recent contract wins.

Nick Clegg highlighted the recent successes of British companies within the manufacturing sector, referring to Weir in relation to recent major contract awards for the supply of safety- related and severe service control valves for the Shin Uljin Nuclear Power Plant (NPP) in Korea and Braka NPP in the United Arab Emirates. The recent order with KEPCO for Braka NPP was the largest single order received by a UK company to date on this prestigious project. Deputy Prime Minister, Nick Clegg said, “These deals are a fantastic example of the enormous potential when world-leading British engineering links up with international players. Our world class pedigree in aerospace,
automotive, power and oil and gas sectors means that we have the skills, technologies and supply chain capabilities needed to support Korean companies looking to expand into the European market. Weir, and companies across the UK,
have the ambition and appetite to meet this demand and I am determined that the coalition government will do everything it can to support them.”
