The new Weir Minerals Benelux sales & service centre

New service centre provides high value to the Low Countries

Weir Minerals’ recently opened sales and service centre in Nederweert, the

Netherlands, is already beginning to benefit the Group, recently delivering a large order for international marine contractor, van Oord. To enable it to expand its operation,

Weir Minerals moved its centre from Venlo to Nederweert. From the new site, near the Belgian border, the Weir Minerals team is conveniently placed to visit sites across the Netherlands, Belgium and Luxembourg. A permanent team of Weir Minerals technicians is based at the centre so that repair and maintenance can be carried out nearby, minimising turnaround time. The new centre, which opened its doors in

January this year, has supplied a range of slurry pumps and spare parts for two of van Oord’s recently built cutter dredgers – the Athena and Arthemis. As part of this latest agreement, Weir Minerals will provide training to van Oord’s ship operatives before they embark on projects. Van Oord is one of Weir Minerals’ longest

established clients in the Netherlands, using the firm’s minerals processing equipment on more than 30 vessels throughout the world. The business currently has more than 150 Weir Minerals pumps operating worldwide and regularly calls on Weir Minerals’ worldwide support services network for essential maintenance and parts replacement, with engineers often flying direct to van Oord’s vessels from the Netherlands.

Strategically managed stock is also kept at the Nederweert location, allowing commonly ordered smaller items to be delivered rapidly to customer locations. Tony Locke, managing director of Weir Minerals Europe, said: “Our pumps deliver some of the highest performance rates available, making them an essential tool across a range of industrial activities, including marine dredging. “Our new centre in Nederweert is a key

hub from which we can support a wide variety of mineral processing or slurry handling industries across the Netherlands, Belgium and Luxembourg. It is essential in supporting our expansion both geographically and outside of our core mining customer base.”

Hose pump success goes global

The Envirotech Peristaltic hose pump, introduced two years ago, is already supplied to nine countries in four continents. Following the success in sales of the hose pump in 2011, it became apparent that Weir Canada, the technology centre for hose pumps, required additional local support and aftermarket service.

The most appropriate solution was for other Weir businesses to manufacture the pumps for their served markets. As a result, the necessary engineering and manufacturing information has been transferred to Weir Minerals France and Australia. Sales and marketing information has been passed to the respective product managers.
