Five months after its acquisition, Weir Novatech, Texas, is making good
progress under the leadership of Jack Rogers. Novatech broadens the expendable component portfolio of the Oil & Gas Division, allowing the packaging of a full range of pressure pump expendables. This enhances the aftermarket offering to Weir Oil & Gas customers.
Simple and effective automation is a key
strength of the business, which sells around 100,000 parts a month from its Dallas, Texas manufacturing plant. The organisation is well respected by its customers and has built a reputation for quality and on-time delivery. The integration process is running smoothly with the human resources team, led by Tracey Mellenthin, ensuring a smooth transition of Novatech employees to the Weir family. The

IT integration team, led by Gary Larson, has successfully managed to meet the demands of simultaneously integrating Weir Seaboard and Weir Novatech, while the finance team has moved Novatech onto the same platform as the rest of the companies within the Group.
Work is currently underway to ensure environmental, health and safety compliance with Weir standards, with the focus on integration into the Weir EHS system. Marketing, engineering and sales integration are also in progress.
Q&A: John Jameson, president, Weir Seaboard
John Jameson was recently appointed as president, Weir Seaboard. John joins the business from Weatherford, where he was senior vice-president for the US region.
Q: What attracted you to Weir? A: I was captivated with the 140 year history of the company. Weir seemed to be interwoven with the most significant events in history – the great depression, World War I and II, post war America and so many others that reflect an amazing heritage. I understood that the company must be open to constant change and able to recognise when change is needed to have been successful for such an extended period of time. This excited me.
This ability to change was reflected in the desire to enter the oil and gas business with their core strength in engineering and manufacturing when they purchased SPM.
Being a customer of theirs at the time, with Weatherford, I saw the investments made to Weir SPM even in the downturn. This demonstrated that Weir is passionate about the oil and gas business and wants to grow in this market strategically. I was attracted because of this strategic growth approach and I hadn’t seen that approach in other companies. I wanted to be a part of the excitement.

Q: What are your immediate priorities? A: First of all, I would like to understand and improve our safety programs. We will see a transfer from our existing program into a world class safety program. Second, is to look at our existing business and position ourselves for future success in the frac stack rental business. Finally, I, along with the Seaboard management team, will be looking for markets that we are under represented in, such as the Middle East and will focus our efforts to grow in those markets.
Q: And your initial thoughts since joining Weir?
Q: In terms of your approach to learning and development, what are your plans? A: In order to learn the Seaboard business my intent is to experience the business first hand. I will be visiting each location in the next 45 days to understand the business. I will be taking an active role to learn both cultures – Seaboard and Weir. The Weir Group looked hard for this company and I want to learn the best way to make these groups come together for best outcomes and future growth.
A: Bagpipes and spirit come to mind. When I was at Gleneagles for the leadership conference I was sitting in a 1000 year old castle with my colleagues from around the world, listening to bag- pipes playing, what I’m sure was an old Scottish song and I realised I was part of something incredible.
The second thought is the unbelievable ‘can do’ spirit of the Seaboard people. There is a spirit throughout the business which is simple – get the job done for the customer. This spirit must be maintained.
