WEIRBULLETIN | JULY 2012 INNOVATION MINERALS OIL & GAS POWER & INDUSTRIAL
Product launches at the Offshore Technology Conference
The Offshore Technology Conference (OTC) was founded in 1969 and is the
world’s foremost event for the development of offshore resources in the fi elds of drilling, exploration, production and environmental protection. Weir exhibited at the 2012 event attended by 89,400 oil and gas people from around the world. The exhibition was the largest in event history and had 2,500 companies representing 46 countries. Keith Cochrane, CEO and Steve Noon, Oil & Gas divisional managing director, launched fi ve technologies for the oil and gas market during a media presentation, to 20 media reporters and editors on 30 April. The products launched included the Weir
SPM Destiny QWS 2800 Hydraulic Fracturing Pump, with high horsepower and advanced patent-pending fl uid end technology which are designed to deliver robust performance and low operating costs. The Weir SPM Duralast is an innovative patent-pending fl uid end technology which is projected to double fl uid end life and achieve low operating costs without requiring any change in materials. lasting performance to achieve low operating costs. The Weir SPM Gladiator Water Pump, designed and manufactured from Weir Power & Industrial’s Weir Specialty Pumps business is engineered for performance and reliability in harsh frac applications. Finally, Weir Linatex brings more than 25 years of experience in high-performance rubber compounds to a line of swellable packers including the Weir Linatex STAMPEDE Packer, designed to facilitate effi cient downhole application and enhanced sealing ability.
Weir’s OTC team represented 14 businesses from across the Group and exhibited 20 products. The presentation to the oil and gas market demonstrated the Group’s cross divisional collaboration efforts achieved through the Oil & Gas Forum and provided a platform to introduce Weir Seaboard and Weir Novatech as the Oil & Gas Division’s most recent acquisitions.
The OTC was a huge success, resulting in a high volume of customer enquiries relating to Weir products launched and featured at the show.
Innovation continues at Multifl o with High Wall Pump
Global mine dewatering specialist Weir Minerals Multifl o (WMM) launched its latest premium performance, custom-built pump, the Multifl o HW (High Wall) pump, following demand from mining customers affected by recent and devastating fl oods. The Multifl o HW pump is a superior high wall mine dewatering solution designed to assist customers affected by fl ooding, such as the Queensland fl oods of 2011 and 2012, which have severely impacted mine site productivity and profi tability.
The pump offers a range of new and unique patent- pending features, including an environmentally friendly dual pipe system that separates hydraulic oil hoses from the dedicated discharge pipe to reduce the risk of hydraulic oils contaminating discharge water.
The submersible pump head assembly includes hydraulic- driven wheels to aid high wall ascent and decent and a heavy duty hydraulic-driven submersible pump designed by WMM to handle high concentrations of silt and solids. WMM marketing manager, Carlos Vernet, said “The latest
addition to our world-leading pumps resulted from customer discussions that revealed the need for a superior high wall pump for reliable mine dewatering application. With a fl ooded mine or quarry costing up to a million dollars a day in lost productivity, we believe the release of the Multifl o HW pump will be well received by customers because of the urgent need for a robust and reliable high wall mine dewatering solution.”
Developed with the knowledge gained from WMM’s 34 years of experience in developing and installing dewatering solutions for complex water issues, the Multifl o HW pump also features a modular design for ease of transport and assembly once on site; uses joystick control of the hydraulic controls for easy operation; has an operator camera for in-pit visibility; and has been designed to ensure maximum fl ow rates. The latest member of the Weir Minerals Multifl o portfolio, the Multifl o HW pump includes ‘built to last’ features such as corrosion and wear resistant materials and heavy duty skids to ensure it withstands the harsh operating conditions of mine sites.
