1. ARRIVE LIBERIA, COSTA RICA Tour begins: 6:00 PM, Hotel Bosque del Mar, Playa Hermosa. 2. HACIENDA FUN NEAR RINCON DE LA VIEJA Spend this morning on mountain slopes enjoying a range of activities that highlight the surrounding nature and wildlife. Options* include horseback riding, zip lining, crossing suspended bridges through the treetops, taking a dip in hot spring waters and water sliding. 3. FROM THE BASE OF ARENAL VOLCANO TO A TREETOP RIDE Drive the Pan American Highway, a network of roadways linking North and South America, to Lake Arenal at the base of the Arenal Volcano. Weather permitting, get a closer look at the summit of this still active volcano on a lake cruise, before soaring through the treetops on a sky tram or zip line* adventure with a bird’s-eye view of the lush forests and the wildlife that lives here. They include deer, tapir, howler monkeys, white-faced monkeys and snakes, and birds like parrots, orioles and brown magpies. Have dinner at your leisure at your resort. Meals BLD
4. MEET THE PEÑAS BLANCAS RIVER RESIDENTS A gentle rubber raft trip* on the Peñas Blancas River provides a quiet backdrop perfect for taking in the sights and sounds of the rainforest. The riverbank wildlife includes monkeys, sloths, iguanas, crocodiles and caimans – along with toucans, herons and kingfishers. Stop along the river to visit 97-year-old Don Pedro’s family farm; learn what life is like in a virgin forest, without electricity and where the trip to town means traveling by canoe.
