6. A TWO-MILLION-YEAR-OLD “GARDEN OF EDEN” Hop aboard an open-top safari vehicle for a game drive and picnic lunch in two-million-year-old Ngorongoro Crater, “where time began” – and where volcanic craters are stunning backdrops to some of the richest grazing grounds in Africa. Look out for Africa’s “Big Five” – buffalo, elephant, lion, leopard and the rare black rhinoceros. Meals BLD
7. OLDUVAI GORGE & ANIMALS OF THE OPEN PLAIN Visit Olduvai Gorge, where fossilized remains of some of the earliest humans on the planet were found, then head to Serengeti National Park for a game drive to see giraffes, elephants, gazelles and more. Meals BLD
8. HOT AIR BALLOONING & A SERENGETI GAME DRIVE This morning’s early rise is one you’ll not forget, for it means a whole new angle on the landscapes of the Serengeti National Park – aloft in a hot air balloon.* A champagne breakfast in the bush follows. After lunch, look for zebras, hyenas, leopards and more on an afternoon game drive with your local guide. Tonight: a special dinner under the stars and a drum circle around the campfire. Meals BLD
9. “SIRINGUTU” – “WHERE THE LAND MOVES” Drive to the western Serengeti and your hilltop lodge overlooking the Mbalageti River today, a favorite watering hole for migrating animals. Look for wildebeest, prides of lions, fleet-footed cheetahs and herds of giraffes and zebras on a late afternoon game drive. Meals BLD
10. SUNRISE TO “SUNDOWNER” ON THE SERENGETI An extended farewell game drive makes the most of your final day on safari. Tonight, celebrate your wild times together with a traditional “sundowner” cocktail on a private deck and under the African sunset, followed by a farewell dinner and Maasai fun. Meals BLD
11. JOURNEY HOME Tour ends: Kilimanjaro Int’l Airport. Fly back to Arusha. Upon arrival, visit a coffee plantation – in addition to learning about coffee production, you’ll learn about its philanthropic activities and bead-making facility. Have lunch at the Cultural Heritage Center in Arusha before arriving at Arumeru River Lodge, where you have a day room. A transfer is included from Arumeru River Lodge to Kilimanjaro Int’l Airport this evening. Meals BLD
