1. ARRIVE ARUSHA, TANZANIA Tour departs: Kilimanjaro Int’l Airport. A transfer from Kilimanjaro International Airport to Arumeru River Lodge is included upon your arrival. Your African lodge, set in dreamlike tropical gardens, is located on the grounds of an old coffee farm.

2. START YOUR SAFARI IN KILIMANJARO OR ARUSHA NATIONAL PARKS Choose between hiking up the Merengu trail on Mt. Kilimanjaro to see birds, monkeys and small antelope, followed by a visit to a Chagga-tribe-member’s home and a lesson in banana-beer making. Or, opt for a game drive in Arusha National Park, seeing giraffe, zebra, buffalo, baboons, and more. Everyone meets up for a welcome dinner. Meals BLD

3. ELEPHANTS, BIG CATS, BAOBABS AND A TASTE OF SWAHILI Head for Tarangire National Park; look for elephant herds on the prowl for underground streams and big cats lounging benignly under baobab trees. After dinner, get to know your local guides around the campfire and learn a bit of useful Swahili. Meals BLD

4. MAASAI TRADITIONS, KENYAN LANDSCAPES

After a morning’s game drive to Silale Swamp, learn more from Maasai tribe members... like making the very unusual elephant dung paper... and how to throw a spear and shoot a bow and arrow. Later, visit “The Viewpoint” of Rift Valley for an amazing Kenyan vista before a barbecue dinner back in camp. This evening, you’ll have fun learning a few Maasai traditions when you watch a Maasai dance – then try it yourself! Meals BLD

5. VISIT A VILLAGE SCHOOL AND LAKE MANYARA NATIONAL PARK Go on a game drive on the shores of Lake Manyara, where tree climbing lions, elephants and baboons like to congregate – it is also a haven for many types of birds. Meet the students of a local primary school that Tauck helps to support, then make tracks for your lodge in the Ngorongoro Highlands overlooking a coffee plantation. Meals BLD
