1. ARRIVE NEW DELHI Tour begins: The Oberoi, Gurgaon. A transfer is included from Indira Gandhi International Airport to The Oberoi, Gurgaon. Most international flights arrive between 11:00 PM and 3:00 AM local time, 10 1/2 hours ahead of the U.S. (EST). To ease the effects of jet lag, consider traveling to India a day early; ask at booking. A modern masterpiece, your award-winning, minimalist-inspired Oberoi hotel is convenient to the city’s must-see landmark sights.

2. INSIDE NEW DELHI Explore contrasting images of Delhi, old and new, with an insider guide. Drive through Vijay Chowk, viewing the Secretariat buildings, Parliament House, the Presidential Palace and the India Gate. See India’s highest single tower, Qutb Minar, built in 1193, and visit Humayun’s Tomb, a UNESCO World Heritage Site that is modeled after Islamic paradise gardens, and the Gandhi Smriti Museum. Join us for a welcome reception and dinner tonight. Meals BLD

3. PAST MADE PERFECT IN OLD DELHI Explore Old Delhi’s labyrinthine streets, a memorable experience that offers an up-close look at 17th-century havelis (mansions), mosques and temples! Visit Lal Qila, commonly called the Red Fort for its red sandstone battlements – and see the memorial to Mahatma Gandhi at Rajghat. The rest of the day is free for you to explore a choice of city museums. Dinner is at leisure in the hotel. Meals BD

4. FLY TO KATHMANDU IN NEPAL Let your imagination take flight as your small group boards a plane bound for Kathmandu, surrounded by the terraced farms of the Himalayas, in Nepal. Touch down for a three-day stay that celebrates the natural charms and spiritual tapestry of this small mountainous country. En route to your family-owned hotel, stop at a golden-roofed temple with silver doors, an architectural gem nestled on the banks of the sacred Bagmati River. Meals BD

5. FLIGHTSEEING IN THE HIMALAYAS Few sights are as spectacular as the alpine views you will see today as your flightseeing* plane soars over the Himalayan landscapes of Mount Everest – an experience you will remember for a lifetime. Back on land, climb aboard a rickshaw as you explore Thamel and the local marketplace where daily life unfolds. Continue on to Durbar Square, recognized as a World Heritage Site for the ancient temples and pagodas clustered around the old royal palace. Visit Kasthamandap Pavilion, said to be built from the timber of a single mythical tree from which Kathmandu derives its name. Lord Buddha is said to keep watch over the inhabitants of the valley from the 2,000-year-old hilltop Swayambhunath Stupa (spiritual monument), painted with all-seeing eyes in the four cardinal directions; enjoy the views on a drive up the hill, before returning to your family-run hotel. Tonight’s lecture by a sherpa who has climbed Mount Everest promises to be enlightening; he and his family will be joining us for dinner to share more insights – sure to be a highlight of this intimate trip.
