ANTARCTIC ARCHIPELAGO Once part of a large equatorial land mass that broke off on its own

about 180 million years ago – and today the most peaceful place on Earth – the magnificent great white continent of Antarctica astounds with glacial landscapes and Arctic wildlife that defy description. Tauck’s cruise aboard Le Boreal or L’Austral provides you the rare opportunity to view them up-close with onboard experts who have spent a lifetime studying these natural wonders in extraordinary detail. Due to changing weather and shifting glacial patterns of this remote region, your day-by-day itinerary will vary and may include Zodiac excursions to Antarctic Peninsula islands. During the summer months of January and February you can experience abundant wildlife on the beaches and cliffs of these islands. Penguins abound – young or old, they have little or no fear of humans and will often spend as much time observing you as you will them. Seals, whales and myriad species of seabirds are often seen on land and at sea; our onboard naturalists can help you identify them during your cruise.

the Antarctic Convergence, a moving zone where the cold Antarctic waters from the south meet the warmer currents from the north. Enjoy the ship’s window-walled gym and pampering spa; curl up with a book; and engage in lively conversations with your captain and crew during your two-day crossing. Meals BLD

6 - 10.  ARCTIC EXPLORATION Your first sighting of the Antarctic Archipelago will be a memory to last a lifetime. Separate and distinct images of ice, sea, land and sky effortlessly blend together into a single portrait of spectacular beauty. Landings will be guided by our naturalists and lecturers. Explore the world of the fascinating (and highly entertaining) penguin, walking among them on the beaches while observing their rookeries, trails and treks into the sea for food. You’ll spot numerous seals on ice floes and along the shore. Identifying the many different species of birds at sea and on land soon becomes easy. Conditions permitting, cruise through the beautiful Lemaire Channel on the lookout for humpback whales. The main attractions of this area, however, are dramatic icebergs and unique ice formations – deep blue, light blue, green, clear, snow white – in various shapes and sizes – and the sun never sets completely at this time of year. Evenings are relaxed, with a mix of lectures, informal chats with the expedition team, documentary films – or perhaps quiet time in the library reading. Meals BLD

11 - 12.  DRAKE PASSAGE CROSSING Your return trip through the Drake Passage affords quiet time to reflect – and to continue learning. Onboard activities include a series of lectures, and opportunities to take full advantage of the many amenities of your state-of-the-art ship. Meals BLD

13. FLY TO BUENOS AIRES / JOURNEY HOME Disembark ship and fly from Ushuaia Airport to Buenos Aires. A transfer is included to Buenos Aires Ezeiza International Airport for your flight home. You should allow three hours for your flight check-in at the airport. Meals B
