8. CUSCO - OF INCANS & CONQUISTADORES Cusco, the longest continually inhabited city of the Americas and a UNESCO World Heritage Site, is a city of brick streets, cathedrals and squares. Walk through its bustling marketplace, before heading outside town to see more testaments to Incan ingenuity. At Sacsayhuamán, explore a fortress built of massive stones without the use of mortar and at Q’uenco, buildings and streets hewn from rock. Visit the 16th-century Convent of Santo Domingo; its arcades and artwork sit atop the walls of Korikancha, once a temple dedicated to the sun. Meals B

9. THROUGH THE ANDES TO LAKE TITICACA Spend the day traveling in relaxed style aboard Orient Express’

Andean Explorer from Cusco through snow-capped mountain peaks, across the Andean plains and past remote mountain villages. Stop to take in the views at the outpost of La Raya (14,150 ft. high). Continue to Puno, where you’ll find local women traditionally garbed in many-layered dresses and bowler hats. Dinner at your leisure awaits at your hotel, which offers wonderful views of the world’s highest navigable lake. Meals BLD

10. LIFE ON ONE OF EARTH’S HIGHEST LAKES Explore life on the lake by powerboating to one of its floating islands; they are home to the Uros, who have long made their lives on islands made of reeds. Next, on the naturally formed island of Taquile, learn about the Aymará inhabitants known for their unique hand-woven textiles and ways of life changed little from that of their ancestors, including living without electricity or vehicles. Enjoy a traditional Aymarán dance performance during lunch. Meals BLD

11. TO THE HEIGHTS OF BOLIVIA Concluding your travels in Peru with a drive along the coast of Lake Titicaca, you’ll board a private hydrofoil crossing the lake to enter Bolivia. Visit Sun Island, the legendary birthplace of the founders of the Incan civilization, where the only means of transportation between its villages is the donkey. Savor incredible views over a typical Bolivian lunch, then hop back aboard the hydrofoil to pass through the narrow Straits of Tiquina to Huatajata, where you will board a coach for La Paz, Bolivia – the highest capital city on Earth. Meals BLD

12. DISCOVER LOFTY LA PAZ Not far from downtown, discover the Valley of the Moon – a lunar-like landscape of astonishing rock formations – then return to Plaza Murillo, the city’s main square named after a freedom fighter hung here in 1810. See the Presidential Palace, Congress Hall and the Mercado de Brujas (Witches’ Market). End your journey with a farewell reception and dinner. Meals BD
