Getting the most from sports highlights


THE OLD adage that ‘Content is King’ means little if the metadata about that content is limited or missing. That is never truer than in the competitive sports production environment. Highlighting incoming footage of a soccer game with points of interest in order to grab those re-play moments and get them to air quickly is all very well, it’s when dealing with the increasing accumulation of metadata as the game progresses that problems can occur. Metadata adds colour and depth to the footage; meaning that adds more than the value of a simple slow-mo replay.
