PLAN ES3153
The Merriwether
This 1,988-sq.-ft. see-through plan lives large and private. Each of the three bedrooms is isolated from the others, and has its own private bath. Resort living, anyone?
GREEN HIGHLIGHTS
A Flexible plan adapts to a variety of uses without expensive remodeling.
B Conditioned mechanical room is accessible from the garage for ease of service, yet all ductwork is located in conditioned space.
C Walk-in pantry offers ample storage for bulk items (reducing transportation and food packaging waste). It includes a recycle center.
D Vent in the attached garage is automatically activated by the garage door, preventing vehicle pollutants from entering the home.
E Garage is prewired for a 240-volt electric car charging station.
F South-facing roof on the rear elevation provides ample out-of-sight space for solar thermal and photovoltaic panels.
G Radon mitigation can be included below the fireplace, exhausting to the outdoors through a vent in the fireplace cavity.
H Plans specify double-stud construction, spray polyeurethane foam insulation—plus many other features that assure a tight building envelope.
This open plan faces north, and features a subdued exterior that conceals a surpisingly expansive and open floor plan. Large, south-facing windows not only provide for winter solar heat gain, but also draw the eye through the house to whatever view is beyond—Forest? Mountain? Lakeside? This plan ditches the typical space-wasting bathtub in favor of a big shower. In addition, the sound-isolated laundry room (with garage entrance) features a built-in bench and cubbies. The plan includes three private bedroom/baths, plus a home-office library, complete with built-in computer desk and bookshelves.
