GREEN HIGHLIGHTS
A The designer’s goal is to reduce heating and cooling costs by 50% without adding to construction cost.
B Where possible, the design employs 2” x 6” studs 24” on-center. Studs directly align with ceiling joists and rafters to create a post and beam structure.
C The design calls for triple-pane windows.
D Floors are concrete with ceramic tile, providing a thermal mass to capture the sun’s heat in winter.
E All duct work is located within the heated area below the insulation.
F The furnace and water heater are centrally located for maximum efficiency with the least duct work and piping.
G Wiring channels at the bottom of all exterior studs allow space—so that insulation is not interrupted or compressed.
H The plan calls for two-stud corner framing (instead of three). This eliminates a void common in conventional construction, and allows wall insulation to completely wrap the the exterior wall
